Cheryl Darlene Brooks passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 10, 2018. Cheryl was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on July 5, 1948 to the late Edward M. Sheppard and Olivia Hicks.
Cheryl was raised in north and south Jersey. As an adult, Cheryl relocated to North Carolina and Virginia. She returned to New Jersey and married Frank L. Brooks, Jr. on December 28, 2001. Besides her parents, Cheryl is preceded in death by her son, Wesley Hull.
Cheryl leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband, Frank L. Brooks, Jr., as well as a daughter, Sonja K. Wood (Warren), son, Stacey L. Hull and step-son, Frank L. Brooks, III. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Warren D. Wood, Jr., Warner D. Wood, Wesley D. Wood, Shaina K. Wood, Adrianna and Lawrianna Brooks; her sister, Evelyn S. James; her brothers, Eddie Melton (Sonya) and Edward “Peter” Melton (Alma) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Cheryl enjoyed dancing, cooking, reading and crafts such as crochet and sewing. More importantly, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She could “visit” with you over the phone for hours; therefore, she was connected to many. A true sign of a well-lived and well-loved life is not only the family that holds you dear but the multitude of family-like friends that “adopted” Cheryl into their hearts such as Jennifer Bryant, Leslie Monroe, Kathy Burnett (Alfred), Soni Brooks (Tony), Gary Monroe (Jenny) and their extended families.
Cheryl will be deeply missed.

Leave a tributeI wrote your name in the sand,
But the waves washed it away.
I wrote your name in the sky,
But the wind blew it away.
So I wrote your name in my heart,
