AMHERST - Chester (Chet) Montgomery, Amherst, Ohio resident, born July 28,1932 in Warsaw KY began a new journey as he was received into heaven May 5th, 2012. 
Survived by his wife of 60 years, Audrey, Daughter Jeanette (Matt) Edwards, Son Robert (Voe) Montgomery, Grandson Huntley (Lindsay) Montgomery, Granddaughters, Natalie (Brian) Sekletar, Jessica Hiromoto, Kyle Montgomery, and MacKenzie Edwards, Great Grandchildren, Bella Sekletar, Logan Sekletar and Campbell Montgomery. 
Chet was a graduate of Gallatin County High School, received a Bachelor of Science and Masters Degrees in Education from Western Kentucky University, While at Western, Chet lettered four years in both baseball and basketball where he received the nickname "Chet the Jet" received the Regents Award (Outstanding Senior Athlete and Scholar) and was selected to the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities. In addition, he was elected Student Body President as a Senior. Life allowed Chet to live his passion of sports. After graduating from college, he was the Head Basketball Coach at Henderson City School and then he became a Major League Baseball Midwest Scouting Supervisor for the Cincinnati Reds, Director of Scouting for the Cleveland Indians, and ended his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates as Special Assistant to the General Manager and Director of Player Development. Chet was inducted into the Baseball Scouting Hall of Fame. 
Friends may call Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. A celebration of Chet's life will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. 
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association ; Cleveland Area Chapter, PO Box 74924, Cleveland, OH 44194-4924.
