His Life

Your life inspires us!!!

April 17, 2014

This page is set up to the glory of God Almighty for the great memory  of His beloved child "Chief (Sir) Godwin Chukwudum Okwara (Chinyelugo of Orlu)", a Liason Grand Knight of the catholic order of St Mulumba, a fulfilled family man, industrialist, great philanthropist, teacher & mentor.

Sir G C, Your life inspires us!!!

Born on February 26th 1938 to the good family of late Joseph and Mary Okwara of Umuola Amaifeke Orlu. He joined the Lord with His Angels and Saints on the eve of February 10th, 2014 at the ripe age of 76. Remember what the Bible says; “THE SPAN OF OUR LIFE IS 70, or 80 FOR THOSE WHO ARE STRONG (Psalm 89/90:10).

Definitely Sir GC (as fondly known), was a very strong man, a SUPER-HERO indeed, who built an enduring business empire from a very humble scratch and from it touched so many lives positively. He remained strong, dedicated and active till his very last moment.

He will be dearly missed by so many in different parts of the globe, being also a globetrotter of unrivaled magnitude. Sir GC’s exit is especially a big blow to Amaifeke, Orlu, Imo State, Igboland, Eastern Nigeria and Nigeria as a whole.

Our ancestors say that when a great tree falls, the birds get scattered all over the forest (oke-osisi daa, umu nnunu e ju ohia). This is exactly what the death of Sir G C Okwara means to so many that came close to him. There is no gainsaying that his death is the end of an era. Only our faith offers a clue in situations like this, “for those who believe in God, death is not an end of life but only a transition” (Catholic Eucharistic Prayer for Funeral Masses).

His glorious memorial and interment took place amidst a very passionate crowd drawn from family, friends, associates and well wishers on Friday the 7th of March 2014 beginning with a requiem mass officiated by His Lordship, Right Rev. Dr A.T. Ukwuoma the Catholic Bishop of Orlu together with Rt Rev. Dr Gregory Ochiagha, the Catholic Bishop Emeritus.

Also in attendance were numerous members of the clergy and the religious, a great sea of Catholic Knights drawn from the equestrian papal Orders, St Mulumba, St John and St.Columba as well as family friends and well wishers from all walks of life including the political, diplomatic, the Judicial and business spheres.

An outstanding homily was delivered by Rev. Fr.Dr J. Okolie at St Mary’s Church Amaifeke after which the great procession progressed to his Marian Home for the interment.

The day indeed was blessed, a manifestation of the glory of God and His special grace upon His servant.

His family is indeed grateful to all their family, friends and well wishers that supported and endeavoured to attend his funeral.

We also enjoin all of you to keep praying sincerely for the repose of his humble soul. Book your masses and send your individual and collective condolence messages, “okwu-agbamume” You can also visit the Sir G.C. Okwara Memorial Trust website on www.sirgcokwara-trust.org to join and support the causes that he faught for so that his legacy will live on.

May the soul of Sir Godwin Chukwudum Okwara and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace – Amen!!!
