Good Mond Foxy
Yvonne Cres, Mount Warren Park, QLD 4207.
2003.
This is where it began for me...
So many nights gathered around the Cooper’s pool table and in their downstairs area - THE CREW!!
Metal, grunge, local gigs, head banging shenanigans - best of the best type of high school memories...
Foxy though, Foxy and Spaz! (Chris and Scott - heh), were absolutely the light in the moment.
In amongst a group of dark, eccentric, metal heads (damn I wish we were as cool as that sounds haha) these dude’s were absolutely the fucking highlight!! Top shelf hilarity, always making people cry-laugh...
Everyone wanted a slice of their pie. Only they could emit a constant up beat brotherly vibe like no other. I’ll never forget their dance moves.. It would make a room full of *goths* break fucking Footloose! Literally, like the movie...
Foxy and Spaz are definitely brothers from intergalactical mothers!
Foxy was always there, for all of us. Always ready to breakout random crazy dance moves, always ready to spare a shoulder if anyone was having a shit moment...
Foxy was foxy - a gentle soul. He taught me how to play pool, dressed up as an Army dude for my sweet 16th birthday, was always ready to break it down for Pantera/Led Zepplin’s epic musical moments with me. He became family.
A couple years later though - my family relocated.
Foxy decided to go on a random road trip (as he would haha) to take a break from the typical 9-5. He ventured up north to visit my sister and I in Yeppoon. He ended up staying in Yeppoon...(yew!) living with my sister (Lexi), myself, Ty, Sheri and Hannah - all in a 2 bedroom unit!!!
Still to this day I don’t know how we managed to pull it off haha, but it happened and we had cemented some fucking awesome memories! Tool - 10,000 days and Pucifer - “V” is for Vagina albums were mainly on repeat - but really, too many tunes to reminisce through - Mr Bungle, Nirvana and Soundgarden def’ did the constant rounds also!!
Stand out memory from that time was when Foxy was trying to call Spaz but the phone reception kept dropping out, so Foxy climbed up onto our roof and held onto the tv antenna for the entire/long ass phone call he had with Spaz because he said it was the only way to get clear phone reception hahaha - true bro love!
It was in this timeframe where we met Gav, our dear friend/neighbour in Yeppoon. Gav expanded Foxy’s and my musical/art realm. We would frequently cook fancy meals over beers while chatting tunes (Kyuss, The Beatles!!), TV (Mighty Booch!!) and reminiscing about our *earlier* days. Another family member made
Foxy and I ended up renting our own place together, we worked hard, had epic guitar sessions!
But mostly, just made the best insane, epic memories... We once lost a snake in our flat (sorry neighbours - and snake!!! Poor Monty.. ☹️), created a “ZEN” garden, often played GTA San Andreas, Tekken or Metal Slug - as well as miniature pool.
Cooked amazing meals (hats off to Foxy’s vege efforts!! AP seasoning was a frequent ingredient!!) but best part was always our mutual love of music.
Laying on the floor for hours listening to Ween, Tenacious D, Faith No More, Soundgarden or watching Nirvanas MTV live album - or Led Zepplins DVD it was always an epic relaxed vibe at our home. Moments I will always reflect on and cherish...
In our flat Foxy always hung photo’s of Ella in his room and kept photo albums of her next to his bed. His love for her was always present in our everyday conversations. He was always thinking of her
There’s so many memorable moments in Brissie and Yeppoon, so many adventures Foxy went on (he climbed a cliff face and slept in a cave in Yeppoon once!).
My all time favourite memory with Foxy will always be,
him, and his entirety. He was my best friend, my brother, my positivity in life...
After our Yeppoon mission we moved back to Brisbane together, first staying at Matty and Sarah’s house (absolute legends!!!) Foxy found a job for me along side him at Tangalooma island - but it just wasn’t meant to be...
Foxy created beautiful memories on that island, and I created a beautiful family back in Yeppoon.
Foxy and I shed a tear last time we saw each other in person, we will always be family. I have so many memories to hold dear, I always thought Foxy would make his way back up to his second home..
Part of Foxy’s last words to me were “ i miss u guys so much that time up with u and lex max and gav was some the best ive ever had. man we gonna catch up soon“
I will always hold that close to my heart.
To Foxy, I love you more than you could ever imagine, thank you for the epic memories! I’ll always remember, always appreciate, I’ll never forget.
Good Mond forever brother
