Kit Barnes, 35, passed away on December 31, 2012, as a result of assisting at the scene of a traffic accident.

Survivors include his wife Kristin; daughters Elizabeth and Katie; parents, Catherine ‘Cat’ Barnes and Michael Barnes; brother, Matthew (Heather); grandfather, Arthur Barnes; and many other relatives and loving friends.

Kit graduated from Belton High School in 1995 and studied at the University of Missouri, graduating in 1999.  Kit worked as a management consultant at Accenture for 12 years, and after studying diligently for two years and obtaining a degree from the University of Georgia, he recently changed careers to follow his dream to be an Investment Advisor.

Kit was passionate about all outdoor activities.  Kit loved camping, skiing (and teaching Elizabeth to ski), and spending time playing outside with Elizabeth and Katie.  He travelled extensively and loved meeting new people; Kit could talk to anyone and have a new friend in a matter of moments.

He loved music and always enjoyed the opportunity to go see live bands.  Watching and attending sporting events were Kit’s passion, especially Mizzou football and basketball and the Sporting KC soccer team.  Kit also enjoyed the several poker leagues that he participated in with friends and neighbors.  Some favorite activities, when he had a rare quiet evening or afternoon, included enjoying microbrews and spending time at the grill or smoking ribs for the family dinner.

Some of the happiest moments in Kit’s life were the times he spent with his daughters.  Elizabeth and Katie could make Kit have a sparkling smile with just a giggle or an impromptu dance show.   Even though he was outnumbered by the girls in the house, he didn’t mind being wrapped around tiny little fingers.  Kit was so proud of Elizabeth’s enthusiasm to ride roller coasters and carnival rides with him, Elizabeth always wanted to be taller so they could go on the big rides together.  ‘Katie Bear’ (as he called her) and Kit had a special father & daughter bond, he loved to chase Katie around the kitchen and make her giggle uncontrollably.

The six short years of marriage that Kit and Kristin had were spent in pure joy.  They travelled extensively, and always enjoyed planning the next family trip.  Evenings together were filled with playing cards or games, and listening to a favorite new CD.

Kit’s life was cut far too short, and he will be deeply missed by all of his friends and family.
