Son of Melissa Byers and John Mark Byers
Christopher Byers was a naturally curious and inquisitive boy who loved to swim, skateboard, and participate in Cub Scouts with his friends. He was a second grade student at Weaver Elementary School in West Memphis, Arkansas and was nicknamed "Wormer" because he was too squirmy to sit still and was highly energetic. When he wasn't doing cartwheels and painting, Chris was usually chatting up a storm according to one of his teachers at school. According to his mother he still believed in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus, and liked to play in the dirt with trucks and liked to color. He also had an interest in motors and moving, mechanical parts. His birth name was Christopher Lee Murray before being adopted by his stepfather John Mark Byers, the adoption finalized in 1991. His biological father was Ricky Lee Murray. He was known to family and friends as "Chris", an affectionate boy who is greatly missed.
Christopher had his life tragically cut short at the age of eight on May 5, 1993 when he and two of his friends, Michael Moore and Steve Branch, were murdered in a wooded area of West Memphis, Arkansas known as Robin Hood Hills.
