To our friend Chris, it is so sad to think you left us a year ago. Will always remember your strong spirit and love for music. It was at a CC party as a youth in the 70’s when you were Dee Jaying that I first heard “CP in the City” and that stayed with you for life. May you Rest In Peace.

On November 19, 2021, I visited Trafalgar Travel to collect something for a friend, who is away, and asked for Chris. "Chris is not with us anymore," said the person who I had asked. Probably the quizzical look on my face prompted her to add that Chris had passed. More disbelief, shock and a wave of sadness enveloped me. In those split seconds, whatever message my facial expression was sending evoked an "I'm sorry" from the person. I left a sad person.

I later called my friend to tell her the bad news. We are the same age - one year younger than Chris. That to say, old school music is our thing. I met Chris through music. Years ago, when Chris' father was the Vice-Chancellor of UWI, Chris used to tape music on cassettes for me. That was probably 30-35 years ago. We have been in touch over the years and the last time I saw him was probably about two years ago when I visited Trafalgar Travel with a neighbour to get a ticket. I had called ahead and when I arrived, Chris and I had a good chat. Needless to say, music and old times were discussed. I cant believe that Chris is gone. Apprehensive about confirming the sad news, it has taken me a week to come online to check for myself. Yes, it's there. Confirmed. Chris is not with us anymore.

Rest in peace Chris Preston. Condolence to family members and friends.

How does one express the amazing essence and spirit of Christopher Preston, aka CP, or for me- it was “prezzy” – His selfless generosity, uncompromising belief in all that is good and his unwavering and exemplified commitment, to his family, work -especially that position which he directed, that we relied on to stay connected, his staff, we his coworkers and friends. Words, even the very best of words, cannot pay tribute or truly capture the sense of loss that I am feeling today.
The loss is there, tangible and real within everyone…but prezzy exemplified life, love, laughter and an irrepressible belief and faith in seeing the best in everything…even loss.
And so today I honor you Chris, by profoundly feeling and expressing this loss, but also by remembering – an amazing person that I met and worked with for the past couple of years and who has played a unique and special role in my work life. Will be missing those early morning conversations, the tips or just always words of encouragement, on how to improve on strategies which could improve the quality of my service.
Our lives will be empty in the areas that he has brightened for us, yes, with his unusual dry sense of humor or on those special occasions, such as Christmas time! (the annual block partaay!) CP in the city….would rollout his musical inventory….!what an inventory it was! AND his special Christmas treats…yeah my Christmas will never be the same.
My friend, there are so many more memorable moments that will be remembered and for always in my heart.
Walk good my friend.

CP in the CITY....Still hard to believe that you are no longer with us in the physical....but you will always be with us in the music. I enjoyed the text exchanges on Fetedays, and that particularly, will be missed. Your music selection was bar none. REST IN THE MUSIC ..Selecta!

It's so hard for me to think of you gone, to speak of you in the past tense, to think there will be no more chit chats with you over the phone or in person, no more of your dry humour...no more of the physical you, but thank God for memories because those will never go away.

I will live the rest of my life knowing that you have contributed to a lot of happy moments, being a great problem solver and an overall great guy.  Working at Trafalgar has been even greater by knowing you.

Rest well Chris.

The common denominator is music.
If it were not for Christopher's brother John, Wolmers Boy's school and music I might have not met Christopher as I was senior to him by a few years.
The disco years, originally BlackOut, then. BlackOut the Player.
Chris would accompany the big boys to gigs and would help with setting up and pulling down and packing away the equipment. His ambition though was to become the selector of the set which he achieved with practice, dedication, passion and practice. C P in the city excelled as a Disc Jockey, and to my memory was one the first guest D Js on Hol Plummer's Saturday night show on FAME FM. UWI carnival and campus hall fetes were regular venues for BlackOut the Player with Chris selecting. A memorable year was when the set was contracted for five nights at the Students Union during carnival week. Another fete memory was at Farqurson Hall at CAST now UTECH, Greetings by Half Pint was the big tune at the time, CP drew that tune several times that night, at about 5.00am in the morning he drew the tune again, I was outside inhaling some fresh air, the patrons that were left in the hall started tossing bottles in the air, when I rushed back in CP was not over the turntables but under the table taking shelter.
Chris in his professional career was an auditor and an information systems technologist. He began his career at KPMG.
His expertise contributed to growth and success of Trafalgar Travel over the past twenty-five years, of which he was founding partner and director.

Chris touched my life long before I actually worked along side him at FeteDayz iRadio, long before I had even heard of CP In The City. When I was much much younger, more often than not my Saturday nights were spent listening to Hol Plummer’s radio show, Disco Mania on FAME FM. That show helped shape my musical tastes and when I actually could buy records and the equipment to play them on, the songs I sought out first were those I listened to on Disco Mania. So you can imagine how I felt when DJ Squeeze informed me that CP whilst being a member of Player’s Disco also played on Disco Mania.
CP was a tastemaker. I remember hearing The Pet Shop Boys West End Girls on Disco Mania 2 years before it was actually released in the U.K. It clicked to me after listening to CP’s style of playing and understanding his musical tastes, that the DJ that first played that song was probably CP. Bless up CP, thanks for the memories. I’m missing you Bro.

Mr. Preston's favorite words were "REBOOT" and "DID I TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE COMPUTERS". Chris loved children, he had a stuffed dog he got from the United Kingdom, he named the dog Cambridge which he kept in his office.

No one could touch the dog, however, every evening after I picked up my daughter from pre-school and took her to the office, he would call her into his office and tell her the story of how he got the dog, then he would say "here, you are the only one who can always play with Cambridge but don't leave with it."

His was spirited in nature and his memories will always be in our heart. Gone but not forgotten Mr. Preston. RIP, you will be missed dearly.

2. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4. A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.❤

Wow Mr. Preston, I still can’t believe it, but God has a plan and he knows best. I could always count on you to be frank and honest and your CP in the City music stylings could be enjoyed no matter what your age was. You brought something different to the company and enjoyed learning from you. May your soul Rest In Peace.

CP was so cool that you could not easily tell that his father and grandfather were outstanding Caribbean figures.

CP’s dad, the Hon Aston Zachariah (AZ) Preston, was UWI Vice-Chancellor from 1974 until he died in 1986. He is memorialised in the Aston Preston Hall of Residence. CP’s granddad, Sir John Mordecai, was the Federal Secretary of the West Indies Federation that lasted from 1958 to 1962.

I knew them both because Barbara Mordecai, CP’s mom, lived at my home. In those days, AZ used to ride on his bicycle from Vineyard Town to visit Barbara where we lived off Half-Way Tree road. No matter his position, AZ never forgot his roots. He would greet me with the same warm hug, no matter the formality of the function or the airs of the crowd around us. When Barbara’s dad, Sir John, came to visit her at my home, he was the same as any other dad come to see his daughter. No hype and no entitlement.

CP was my student at Jamaica College, and I consider it a privilege to have taught someone who remained the same loving, and caring person I knew from childhood. He leaves a space that will not easily be filled. He also leaves a legacy, notably a passion for music, that will keep him alive in our hearts.

May love and peace surround and uplift Donna, Matthew, Kristen, John, Caroline, and the rest of the family.

My heart is truly heavy as I write this as it is difficult to come to terms with the fact that Chris is no longer around. Chris was a pivotal part of my teenage years, a trusted friend with whom I share many pleasant memories. He was the first person to trust me behind the wheel, teaching me to drive with his usual patient, calm demeanor…never getting flustered even when I mistook the gas for the brake and almost knocked down the neighbor’s wall. I enjoyed my first Reggae Sunsplash because of his kindness and willingness to drive the “posse” to Mobay...a truly memorable time. He was my constant supplier of reggae tapes when I went abroad to study and was the DJ at my wedding. You can’t think of Chris without reminiscing on his generous and gentile demeanor. He was a special kind of person who positively impacted the lives he touched. He will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to Donna, Matthew, Kristen and the rest of the family. May Chris Rest in Eternal Peace.

I was one of the babies in the College Common group but I have fond memories of cutting through the gully to the back of Chris' house to eat guineps! Chris was always quiet and gentle and he was loved by everyone. He was one of my CC "big brothers. " Its very painful to think he is gone. My prayers for Donna, Matthew, Kristen, John, Caroline and the rest of the family.

So glad I had a chance to catch up with both Chris and Donna at the Trafalgar function in 2019. It was good seeing them after a hiatus of 20 years. There was no noticeable change in Chris - to me he still exuded the same relaxed, calm and steady vibe I always associated with him.

Take care Chris and walk good. You will be missed. To Donna, the children and the rest of the Preston family, you are all in my prayers.

Mr Preston, I remember the first time I met you in an interview, you were very intimidating, and that was my first impression. Eventually I became your second in command, turns out you weren't so intimidating after all, actually you were the opposite. Gentle giant, that's what I would call you, you were my boss and a father figure to me at work. It's crazy how you looked out for me, you always ensured I was comfortable at work and many times ensured I reached home safely when I wasn't driving. I always joked about how I spoke to you more than my GF, you called me for every and anything and I didn't mind because I had nothing but respect for you. All those weekends we worked at the office and one of my friends tagged along, you always had some jokes to share to share with them. The last time I saw you we joked about getting locked up for breaking curfew then we went our separate ways laughing. I will miss you, and I won't forget you. Sleep well Mr P, heaven just needed a DJ

It seems like yesterday when we first met as teenagers through mutual friends on the CB radio - but in truth it was over 40 years ago! The memorable parties that coloured our young adult years and unadulterated fun we had. Thank you Chris for the wonderful memories and for your supply of taped music at a time when there was no YouTube or Spotify - they served to sustain me when l first arrived in the Netherlands.
May the Lord continue to bless and keep your family.

My heart is so saddened as I think about CP leaving this world so early. Chris & I grew up together on College Common playing Subbuteo, tennis, and football together. Chris had an amazing, extremely powerful set shot in football that he called the "TP" or "toe punch", as he would step back from the football, run at it with outstretched arm yelling "hoo-rack-cak-cak" and then power the ball with his barefoot big toe. Woe to the keeper in front of him!
So many fond memories from our childhood - spending an entire Saturday at his home binge watching all 3 of the Godfather movies, drinking Tang, wrestling in his back yard. I've broken my left wrist 4 times - one of which was Chris smothering me while wrestling.
In our teen years when Chris began CP in the City, he would let me DJ on the mic at house parties. Chris could spin! And that of course carried on to the very end.
With time and distance I didn't see Chris as much recently, but always enjoyed getting caught up at our neighborhood reunions.
Miss you so much mi bredrin. RIP. To Donna, Matthew & Kristen, to John & Caroline, may the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and God of all comfort strengthen you and surround you with his presence as you grieve.

The loss of a next door neighbor is very sad . So we can't imagine the loss of a husband and father that Donna, Matthew and Kristen are experiencing. Chris was a gentle giant, never spoke much but was always smiling and friendly. We will always remember the laughter and chattering coming from the house on a Sunday morning and the delicious aroma coming from his barbeque. RIP Chris

Chris was like the big brother I never had, caring, generous, protective, but always honest. I remember when he was teaching me to drive and another driver was blowing his horn to get me to pull to the left and I got annoyed and would not move out of the way, Chris calmly told me to pull over to the left and told me that was not the correct way to drive and made a joke about it.
I will miss our talks and his advise, generosity and jovial persona.
Rest in Peace

Chris,a childhood friend, lived up the street from me in College Common. I spent many a day perfecting my love of tennis at his home. I remember him as gentle and generous..with a dry sense of humor and a love for music. He was always kind to my brother, also named Chris, and who also passed away. While we fell out of touch he was never forgotten. His big soul lives on.
Rest In Peace Chris.

Chris aka Mr Preston, aka DJ CP in the city, was someone I would call friend. Although I grew up knowing him as the younger brother of one of my Dad's friends from his high school days who was one of the selectors of 'Players'...we became friends and had our own relationship during my 9 year tenure at Trafalgar Travel.

His gentle giant spirit, unique wit, dry sense of humor, love of music and my baked goods is what drew me to him and caused our relationship to grow over those years. He never made anything bother him nor work him into a frenzy no matter how much was thrown at him.

He loved his wife, his cats, his fish and his children, and his music followers dearly.

A firm believer of the "99% human error" and "shutdown and reboot" philosophy on troubleshooting often times had him butting heads with many of us at Trafalgar Travel but he always made sure the problem was solved in a timely manner and always made himself available...even when he was on vacation or in the hospital.

He was an integral part of the 'Trafalgar Family' and can never be replaced. I am sure his Fetedayz followers will say the same also.

I was blessed of the Lord to have known him and worked with him and can call him My Friend. Whenever I hear an Alanis Morrisette song I will think of him and smile.

A friend like a brother.

April 29, 2021
31 years ago there were 5 young men that would meet at my home every Friday night to play cards.
Those young men were really smart and decent young men. Chris Preston, Wayne M, Joseph C, Adrian L, Stephen F...
I would go to sleep in my room and they would play until they left..I hold those memories close to my heart.
I remember Chris jokingly saying how he had to make sure my Wayne was good enough for me.
3 of them were at my wedding and one was in my bridal party. Named one of my son after one. Both my sons share alma mater with Adrian and Stephen. I can say they are like brothers to me and Chris was a really great big brother. Even though I don't speak to all of them as often I find myself defending especially Stephen F and reminding people that he's so bright you have to understand that 'Real Bright' can be excused as we do make excuse for those not so bright
Chris is that person I introduced other people to because he was such a supportive and encouraging person. One of those person wrote 'Chris was my mentor'...I know this.
My brother is gone and I'm so grateful to God that I met him and laughed with him and that those 5 guys adopted me.
My brother Chris was such a jovial witty chap he would want us to play on...
