by the time i was born ,grandma clara had already had the terrible stroke that left her parylized and though she could speak ,i couldnt understand what she said, but i didnt need to understand her speech to know she loved me.oh what a gentle soul she was!!! i remember every smile that she gave for sweaty bouquets of daisys and morning glories, she loved those flowers, and i remember the way she smiled when we came for christmas, little kids running all over the house.and she got a bigger kick out our opening presents than we did.and sadly,i remember the morning grandpa baldy died.she knew something was wrong, but we didnt tell her till her sister, aunt julie got there.grandma listened to all the kind things aunt julie said ,them looked at her daughter,my aunt pete and said is he dead? it made me cry, even though at age 7 i didnt truly understand.42 years later, when my husband died in my arms and the hospice nurse said hes gone, one of the first things i thought was,i understand now grandma.she was a gentle, loving woman, and i loved her.but another lady we love deserves tribute too.my aunt pete.because of her love and unselfishness grandma was able to live out her life with her family ,not in a nursing home.thank you aunt pete, for your big and loving heart.
