Her Life

A GENTLE GIANT; A PEACEFUL DOVE

February 26, 2018
The woman who would later be unanimously referred to as a virtuous Proverbs 31 Woman was the first child born to Mr. Asek Arah and Mama Ojong Mbeng on January 29th 1930 in Akak village where she grew up with her three siblings all of whom preceded her in death.

In 1955 she married Mr. William Nso Tayui of Bakogo village, a young, London-trained teacher who would later obtain a degree in Literature from the University of Iowa after serving as the principal of BTTC and who would, subsequently, go down in history as the first Black and longest-serving Principal of the prestigious Saker Baptist College, Victoria, (now Limbe), a stellar all girls boarding school of national and international repute.

The Father figure he was to the students became popularly known as "BABA" while his beloved wife was fondly referred to as "MAMI BABA".
The wise, soft-spoken, peace-loving, level-headed and kindhearted woman with the  gentlest of souls was someone who, every single day, modeled the virtues of resilience, perseverance, tolerance, temperance, humility and kindness, standing as the little seen but very present rock of stability behind the eminent and prominent BABA, "King of Saker" and Icon of the Cameroon Baptist Mission who also, preceded her in death in 2002.
Their Union was blessed with three children: a first child and only daughter who passed away in infancy and two sons, Dr. Ebenezer Tayui and Mr. Peter Tayui.

However, this matriarch of the Tayui family raised not only her two children but several family members and family friends who became her children. Added to that number, would be generation after generation of SAKERETTES who, over the two decades her husband served as Principal, were nurtured, not just emotionally by her but also physically, given the fact that her industriousness and laudable desire to generate a significant (albeit modest) income led her to prepare and sell delectable food; treats and delicacies which, to many a SAKERETTE served as the one thing that brightened their day and reminded them of home, particularly since she always added a smile and a kind word to go along with even the tiniest of purchases.

Mami Clara Ojong Tayui who breathed her last breath on Friday, February 9 2018, is survived by her sons, Dr. Ebenezer Tayui (Beatrice Mensah Tayui), Mr. Peter Tayui (Florence Ayambod Tayui), her special daughters Justice Maggie Mbi Ndundat (Capt.Sule Ndundat), Mrs. Lucy Nnoke and her special sons, Mr. Anthony Nnoke, and Mr. Sonny Mbi and the Mbi family, her grandchildren, Nso Tayui, Clarice Tayui, Chelsea Tayui, Beatrice Tayui, Ojong Tayui, Raynna Tayui and Ebenezer Tayui and several other cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews to mourn her epic loss.

The special envoy of Peace and paragon of Endurance and Wisdom she was will be greatly missed.

May her soul rest in perfect peace.
