Clare passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday June 7th, 2020.  Loving husband of the late Mary Lou Colton.  Beloved brother to Cliff, Wayne and the late Arthur, Bruce, Howard, Marvin and George Harrison.  Beloved father of Gary (Laura), Wayne (Laura), Wendy and the late Michael Colton.  He was beaming with pride for his grandchildren Justin, Jeremy, Joshua, Ashlea, Aaron, Michelle, Emily, Vanessa, Victoria, Jacob and his 12 great-grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed by so many.  Including his 'family of friends' at Pine Valley McDonald's, whom he met with every morning for over 25 years.  He was always ready to greet you with a good joke and his infectious laugh.  We are all heart broken and deeply saddened by his passing.  In order to honor his wishes - 'for all his family and friends to be together to say our goodbyes and celebrate his life', a memorial service will have to take place at a later date when everyone he loved can be together, per his request.

The best times of my childhood would always be to visit Uncle Clare and Aunt Marylou for a big bbq in the back yard at the house in Pine Grove. The best food ever; catchin “crawfish” in the river;toasting marshmallows, fartin in glasses, sittin on the garage roof with Wendy and talkin till it was dark and the “skiddaz came out. Then indoors for card games, great conversations and Uncle Clares jokes. My favorite uncle! Truly one of a kind!
Thank you for giving me memories i will cherish for the rest of my life.Keep listening for that train as its rollin round the bend!

My sincere condolences to your family. I had the pleasure of knowing Clare from Hayhoe Mills were we worked together for many years. He was truly a kind gentlemen and always put a smile on my face with his sense of humour. He will truly be missed. Marylou and Clare came to visit me at the hospital when I had my twins. I’ll never forget the afternoon they spent with me and where and we’re just adorable with the babies as if they were their own . Rest In Peace Clare you will not be forgotten.

You were one great man Clare! Will always remember meeting you down at the mill when I was 7-8 years old at 3 am to jump in the truck with you for the day and go to work with you. You were always so kind and a true gentleman and will always remember you saying just make sure you bring some butterscotch lifesavers. You were a great Man and will miss your laugh and your friendship. RIP Clare

Early Riser

Grandpa was always up early.  I've never seen him sleep in.  Every day when I was going to high school he would drive me in his dark silver Chrysler New Yorker.  He'd be finished his first McDonald's coffee, ready to go and starting to worry I'd be late.  He'd poke his head in my room and say - 'Ashlea, time to get up.'.  But, I was a teenager.  Even though school started at 9:15 I was always up so late that it felt impossible to wake up.  He'd get more and more nervous for me, the longer I slept.  Opening the door again and reminding me kindly that we didn't have much time.  Eventually I would wake up at around 9 am and get ready in five minutes flat.  Luckily I had a school uniform to cut down on time, a fantastic chauffeur and a school that was only a block away!  To this day, I have an inner grandpa making me feel like I'm going to be late.  I have to be at the airport three hours early or I start feeling very anxious!  Thanks for driving me to school every day Grandpa, for your endless patience and for making me want to be on time!
