Clarence Lindsay Johnson was born to the union of Clarence Stephen Johnson and Carrie Putman-Johnson of Brookhaven, Mississippi.He was proceeded in death by his parents, his siblings: two brothers Jafus and Leroy Johnson and two sisters Thelma Johnson-Lowe/Edwards and Mary Williams.

Notable Accomplishments

Clarence received his formal education within the Public Schools system of Brookhaven, Mississippi.Upon graduation from Alexander High School; he attended Tugaloo College in Mississippi during his freshman and sophomore years.He was drafted to the United States Marine Corp where he served two terms. Upon leaving the Marine Corp, he matriculated at Tennessee State University in Nashville, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Education/Sociology – with an emphasis in Social Administration.

After graduation from TSU, he taught Health Education, World History and General Science for seventeen years in Georgia. Clarence moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1971 where he taught in the Dayton, Ohio Public School System for 17 more years. Namely Dunbar High School (one of Dayton’s most prestigious high schools) as well as Patterson Cooperative and Meadowdale High School.

Clarence received his Master of Science Teaching Degree at Antioch University in Yellow Springs, OH. He also completed 56 hours towards his Doctorate Degree in Health Education and Epidemiology at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. He was awarded his PhD. on August 28, 2011 from Ashwood University.

Clarence was affiliated with African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church where he served as Steward, President of Columbus/Cincinnati District Lay Council, President of the St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church under the late Rev. Doctor George Kindell, Presiding Elder.

On April 6th, 1987 he was hired by Public Health for Dayton and Montgomery, formally known as the Combined Health District of Montgomery County where he served for 21 years in various capacities. Clarence was the first Educator hired by the Health Department as Coordinator of its AIDS program.

Clarence will always be remembered as an amazing, graceful man who had a natural ability to make others feel good in his presence.He was not only an accomplished scholar in his own right – he found joy in consultation, serving the public and mentoring others towards accomplishing their scholastic goals.He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and great, great nieces and nephews - along with a host of others, who he made a positive impact on with his humble humility and encouraging nature.He will always be a staple in the hearts of family and friends.
