Christmas Visits

August 20, 2011

Every year after Christmas, Judy, Betty, and I always looked forward to visiting Aunt Clarice.  It was one of the highlights of our holiday.  She would anticipate our visit and was always so happy to see us.  I had given her a wall calendar one Christmas and she had liked it because it had large numbers that she could see from a distance.  It then became a tradition that I would bring her a calendar each year.  I'll miss doing that.

She always had gifts for us and in recent years, it would include dishcloths that she had crocheted.  Not only were they special because she had made them, they were very useful and I still use them every day.

Visiting Aunt Clarice was the closest thing to visiting my own mother who passed away 26 years ago (much too soon).   I have so much admiration for her and her determination to "live" her life and enjoy every moment.  She came to jewelry parties, reunions and weddings - where others, younger than she, would have made excuses to stay home.  She will be missed, but the memories will be sweeter than ever.

Five Generation Picture

August 3, 2011

I was determined that I was going to get a picture of all five of us and have our picture in the paper since it was very seldom that any family had five generations of children living at the same time. I was so proud the day we went to Walmart to take this picture. Grandma was smiling so big when she saw Harper for the first time. She loved all her grandchildren all the same no matter how often she got to see them. She would always tells us "come to see me when you can". She always made sure that each of us got a birthday card in the mail and she almost always made sure we got it in the mail the day of unless it fell on Sunday. I think a lot of the time her daughters were helping her out with so many grand kids. She always said that she marked the calendar so that she would not forget anyone. Boy the calendar was full all the time of dates she had to remember. Christmas time was fun to be in the house with all the family. There was so many people that we had to sit in all the rooms but the bedroom and hallway. Table, card tables and coffee tables served as where we ate at. The kitchen had food galore. You name it we had it. There was always enough for everyone for two or three trips back. Believe me everyone made plenty of trips.

Grandma you will be missed. I hope that all the family will continue to get together in your memory and we remember that you always enjoyed the gatherings. I love you Grandma and will always keep you in my heart. Love your Granddaughter Daphne.
