Johnston's Sportfishing Trip

April 18, 2019

On June 6, 2010, Scott Macon group (Clark Second from the left) got on board Ann’s Dream. Capt. Ann and her guest went 30 miles from Freeport out in the Gulf and landed some nice Ling. One was 65 pounds that was caught on 30lb. test. It took about 30 minutes to bring it in. The Snapper, King and Ling were certainly in abundance, the conditions were absolutely wonderful for some good fishing.

Austin Industrial changes tower during outage at Equistar

March 18, 2019

(Published 2004 in the SPAN, a publication for the Employee - Owners of Austin Industrial)

The Lyondell/Equistar and Austin Industrial Construction Group played an important role in the installation of a new tower section in the BT unit at the Channelview Equistar site. The construction group's role was to create all lifting plans, coordinate and arrange crane rental, and dismantle all piping and electrical connections, During the initial phases of the BT outage, this project was the critical path for the unit start-up. "This was initially viewed as a difficult project, but it matured into one that, when executed, provided great results"  said Pat Ganster, the Lyondell and Equistar construction coordinator. This project was completed safetly, quickly and cost effectively, indicating the level of commitment on the part of everyone who worked on it. On behalf of the Plant Projects Group, I would like to extend my appreciation and congratulations to all involved in achieving our success with their part in Engineering, planning and Scheduling Craft Construction, Construction Management,  Support Services, and the assistance of the BT Unit personal" Two key Austin employee-owners were cited as being standouts during the execution of the tower replacement - Clark Poorboy, structural/rigging general forman, and Darryl Matherne, general superintendent. Clark Poorboy was the key point of contact for the Austin Construction Group. He served as the coordinating point for the group's efforts. He was also heavily involved in meeting the client's needs. "Thanks to the crews of Steven Yorek, Ronnie Hutchins. and steve Allen for a job well done," said Clark Poorboy

To: Kim Nobles, Roger McCabe,

I just wanted each of you to know what a fine job Clark Poorboy (Construction Group) and his crew did for us at the SMA unit. Clark's job was to demo the old super sack hopper. Clark did a fantastic job without incident and allowed us to get back into production about 2 days earlier than we had anticipated. I really appreciate all the effort on Clark's part. I look forward to working with him on any Mid Plant projects in the future. Job well done, Clark!

Thanks, Rick Grandy, Operations Coordinator.

What Safety Means To Me ...

March 15, 2019

In 2006 Clark was a Project Superintendent for Alfred Miller a Contracting company based out of Louisiana. The DCS Project was at the Chevron Phillips Cedar Bayou Complex. I believe it was for a Control System Building. His response to safety ...

Here is the meaning of safety as I see and used it in my day to day activities; The word Safety is just that until you break it down and that's when you get the meaning of the word. Safety does not make you better than the other person nor craft but it gives you an Attitude of willingness to look out for and each other, Veterans as well Rookies, to see the proper way Construction is to be performed Safely! If you can go through your construction career and look back and see no injuries or major accidents then you have leaped a huge hurdle.

CCA Louisiana S.T.A.R Tournament

March 14, 2019

In June of 2013 Clark was taken on a fishing trip to Lake Charles he was already entered in Texas for CCA but wasn't in Louisiana. I really don't think he was even thinking about the S.T.A.R Tournament it was just fishing with a couple of guys. So, they head out before the crack of dawn and lord and behold he catches a 9.1 lb. trout! This made it into the paper under the fishing report. If he was registered, he would had been ahead on the leaderboard. He for sure got registered either that night or the next morning, I don’t quite remember but he still had 2 days of fishing left. When the trip was over, he ended up in first with a 7.41 lb. trout. After coming back home it didn't take long for him getting bumped down to second place. I told him he had to go back and try again so he did but had no luck, the prize for 2nd was still a boat it was just smaller. But when he got bumped down to third, he went back with a vengeance and ended up taking the leaderboard for not only first but also third! The tournament wasn't over till September 2nd so we hoped that no one would bump him back down again. But if they had he was ready to head back to defend his title. Clark ended up being first place winner in the speckled trout west division. His fish weighed in at 8.29 lbs. he took the price of an 1810 RG Nautic Star with 90hp Mercury Four-Stroke. He was the proudest that I have ever seen him and I was so very happy for him. He loved his boat and always liked to tell the story on how it came to pass of his win. I wish I had learned how to drive his pride and joy, I know the worst thing for a boat is to just sit parked without being taking out. I just haven't had the heart to sell it but know that I need to, It's just every time I look out at it, I can see him standing there at the wheel smiling.
