Clayton Quillian Burchell Jr of Irondale, AL, died Thursday February 24, 2022, at East Glen Nursing Home from natural causes, at the age of 85. Born September 8, 1936 to Clayton Quillian Burchell Sr and Alene Crane Burchell in Brighton, AL.
Clay was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Mary Cribbs, Geraldine Patterson, and Laurel Roegner, and his Grandson Eric Potter. He is survived by Shirley Burchell, his wife of 42 years. Clay is also survived by his children, Clayton Q. Burchell III, John R. Burchell, his stepchildren Julie Potter and Mark Crocker, and one granddaughter Katrina Gibson. 
Clay grew up on the west side of Birmingham and attended West End High School. In his career, he became the foremost wallpaper hanger in the southeast. From "The Club" atop Red Mountain to mansions in Mt. Brook, or any high rise in downtown Birmingham, his artistry is on display. Clay was a member of Crestway Baptist Church since 1973. Clay was a frequent volunteer at Jimmy Hale Mission and Brother Bryan Mission. 
A memorial will be held at Crestway Baptist Church, 6400 Crestwood Blvd, on Monday March 7, 2022. Family visitation will begin at 12 noon with a memorial service at 12:30. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Clay's memory to the Jimmy Hale Mission and Brother Bryan Mission.
