I’m so grateful to Cleve for all his trips to the Discovery Shop. What a service he provided. And my husband Ron enjoyed many lunch dates with Cleve, Stu Fine, and Ron Roach. Cleve was the Best of the Best.

Cleve had a warm and gentle countenance that made every meeting a pleasure. He radiated good humor. Our condolences to his family.

For us he was first the anonymous guy who came with the truck to help move our furniture to the Discovery Shop as we down-sized to move to Stoneridge Creek.  At Stoneridge Creek we shared tales of travel with Cleve and Pat over many dinners.  We miss him.

I came to know Cleve through my friend Pat.  I think the Lord looked down and saw these two lovely, kind people and brought them together to enjoy the passing years. Whenever we met, I could rely on Cleve having a pleasant smile and cheerful word to say. May Cleve's family and friends be blessed and comforted by many happy memories.

When I think of Uncle Cleve so many warm and cherished memories come flooding back. He always had a smile and a kind word. He had a true servant’s heart, always looking out for others. Encouragement and hospitality were some of his many gifts and he shared them generously. As kids, we could always count on him for treats and adventure, especially at Lake Shasta! And when the next generation came around, he did it all over again! Those memories and Cleve’s kindness will be with us in our hearts forever.

We added a photo we took of Pat and Cleve during a Stoneridge Creek excursion of the USS Potomac with the Golden Gate Bridge behind them. We will miss Cleve, but will always remember his smile, kindness, and fun personality.

Uncle Cleve was one of the most kind individuals that I was lucky enough to know. There are some people that just have a constant twinkle in their eye. Mischief or kindness, often one in the same, the memories will live on forever. My childhood memories would not be the same without the Beck family. Kindness, patience, giving ... rest in peace Uncle Cleve. You will be deeply missed by all but the twinkle in your eyes will stay with us forever!

Cleve was a sweet and loving man. He was a wonderful grandfather to Max and Bridget. He always made me feel safe, welcomed and loved. He was perpetually the consummate host and after 36 years of knowing Cleve, I have definitely learned a thing or two from him. He always called me Kimmie. He came to my rescue many times when I needed it. I will forever think fondly back on the memories we shared. He was truly a beautiful person. He will be deeply missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with Cleve’s family. Cleve was a treasure. You knew him for a lifetime. I met him here at Stoneridge Creek and was lucky to enjoy his company for six years. He was a wonderful listener and had a lovely sense of humor. I liked to hear his stories about his family and he listened to mine. Since we had both already lived a long life we never lacked something to talk about. He had a special smile, beautiful blue eyes and a kind heart

His Life

Cleve Franklin Beck

March 11, 2021
Cleve Beck, 88, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 1st at Valley Care Hospital.    He was born in Fresno, raised in Oakland and lived in Pleasanton more than 50 years.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hudson Ward.

Cleve served his country in the Korean war and married Betty Ward, his bride of 48 years in 1960.  He ran a Century 21 franchise with Betty and loved entertaining.  Cleve was a Scout Master for the BSA’s and loved attending Soccer games for both his son and grandchildren.

Leisure time was spent on their houseboat at Lake Shasta with family and friends.  It was not unusual to see 6 to 8 houseboats tied up in a cove together enjoying good food and a drink or keeping cool floating in the lake.  Cleve was an avid fisherman enjoying trips to Alaska as well as fishing in the bay and ocean.  He passed his love for fishing onto his family.  Cleve and Betty also enjoyed time in their condo in Palm Desert.

Cleve lived at Stoneridge Creek Retirement community for the past 7 years.  He loved his active life, his many friends and his special friendship with Pat.    Cleve and Pat traveled to Sedona, Santa Fee, Taos, Columbia Snake River, Palm Springs, Seattle and Hawaii.  He was known for volunteering at Kaiser for over 2000 hours and collecting donations for the Discovery Cancer Shop.   Cleve was a kind, loving and Gentle man.  Cleve was known for his generosity both this his time and energy.

He is survived by his sons, Matthew Beck and his wife Darlene of Pleasanton and Scott Madsen and his wife Karen of Danville; Grandchildren Donald, Maxwell, Jonathan, Bridget, Jamie and Kasey.

Due to the present times, a celebration of life will not be held.

Missing Cleve at Christmas

December 13, 2021
I am so grateful for the 6 years that Cleve and I spent time together here at Stoneridge Creek. He was certainly an unexpected surprise I found when I moved here. For the last couple years he helped me put up my Christmas tree and hung the fresh pine wreath on my balcony. We enjoyed listening to Christmas music while having eggnog or a holiday cocktail. I remember his wonderful smile and beautiful blue eyes. He was a true gentleman with a nice sense of humor. When I first met Cleve I was impressed by the volunteer work he did for the Discovery Shop and Kaiser. He was a delightful travel companion. We had six great adventures together with Road Scholar, American Cruise line and Crystal Cruise line. It was a blessing to be able to spend time with him during the pandemic.

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened"
I have many things to smile about from the time Cleve and I spent together here at Stoneridge Creek: our excursions, meals, cocktails on my balcony, and travels.

Never forget

April 6, 2021
Cleve is one of those people that you can never forget - not because he talked about his accomplishments or drew attention to himself.  But because he turned his attention to you.  He had a genuine knack for making people feel good about themselves.  In his business dealings you knew that his handshake was as good as his signature - you felt that from him.
He made life look easy, making big decisions effortlessly, after consulting a few trusted people.  And he was always up for fun times and laughter.  That SMILE!  Thank you for your smile, Cleve - I'm going to try to be a little more like you in that way.

I've learned the two most important things in life are Relationships and Character.  Everything else is secondary.  Cleve exemplified these two traits so well.  I will never forget you, Cleve.  Thank you for being a part of my life for the past 15 years.  Looking at your pictures now, you're almost larger than life itself.  Your left an indelible mark on this world.  Rest in Peace!
