We will be having a drum circle afterward at a nearby park where we will play rhythms and share stories of a man who "Cranked It Up a Notch" and touched the heart of many souls, from all walks of life, from laughter to music, from Beautiful Syncrenistic Drum Shuttles to Beautiful Fork Brackets, from beating a drum to playing a game of chess. His energy was inviting and his laughter was contagious.

"An Original Soul Shaker" would be one way to describe Clyde Casey. He lived life on his on terms. FREE. WithOUT rules. Only LOVE. There was no NORMAL. Only WEIRD, brilliant musical mastery, art and giving. LOTS of giving. Casey beat to his own drum - literally and philosophically . He was orchestrator of all the smiles he encouraged, the joy he bestowed, and light that flowed from within him and all around him. If you were in his circle, you were HAPPY .  That is all it took. For him to be near you. Radiating positive, magnetic energy and enamoring all who were lucky enough to have known him.

I knew him as a very young woman living in NOLA with my partner in the early 2000s. My boyfriend at the time and myself we lived in the French Quarter on Royal Street and my ex became friends with him. They were chess partners and he was such a joyful presence! He was a good man and just so welcoming we were just silly kids back then and just enjoyed meeting him.

I am so saddened to hear of his passing. I no longer live in NOLA but this city's haunting magical memory and my memories of Mr. Casey are very much alive. I will get back down to NOLA again and I will certainly remember his joy and the friendship he showed us. R.I.P. you made so many of us smile with your light and your positive energy.

he may very well be psychic time travelling. in 2009 i found a bent fork with a clear or crystal orb on it in one of the gutters i was sleeping in, it had been run over, and i seen it had a unique shape so i got it back to what it once was. i knew i was important then and like everything, that i find i latch onto it, to get the meaning of life, and in a way to feel like a part of it. a year later i get to looking closely at it, the fork and it reads "may the forkce be with you! with a c in a circle. From New Orleans to Venice Beach Forkmeister Clyde Casey Forkin A New Orleans 30'Lat 90'Long Earth Milky Way Galaxy 2009. i tried to find him online but it looked as if he made his way back to New Orleans or his youtube videos didn't have any current dated materiel so i figured he went back there. i still have the artwork he made. i wear it every now and then. and this year a few months back, i put it back on for a few days, and now i realize i've been getting strange or strong vibes about looking him up. to see what's going on with him. there's a connection. and i'm a part of it. i'm gonna light more than a flower now.

Eddie was my cousin..we hadn't seen each other for years. As a child I looked up to him..he was always so sweet & kind. He adored my father..Uncle Gilbert. They were similar. Neither liked to live life in the traditional way! When daddy was dying Eddie readied my car with bedding & everything to keep daddy comfortable as I was bringing him to New Mexico with me to spend his last days. Wherever you are Cuz..the heavens are jamming to a hell of a good time! (Michelle Bluestone Walters)

I really appreciated your honest opinion about things, even if it caused a disagreement. We spoke about this many times before - once you get on the other side (to my knowledge!?!?!), there is no way to contact this side. I knew u enjoyed ur time on this side (and tried to make it last, as long as you could). I also knew that you were extremely interested about the other side. I'm sure now, ur having the time of your afterlife!!!!

I'm so glad and honored that you telephoned me, must have been the night of April Fools Day. We spend an hour reliving so many good time and adventures in Santa Monica, and with Sherrie at the Electronic Cafe International. I'm sure you will find and gather up many wonderful "cosmic debris" out in the actual cosmos. Sherrie is there waiting for you. Earth has lost a treasure, but the cosmos will benefit, and will keep you until we all join you there and all of us will be together again.

In honor of Clyde Casey...I remember seeing him for the first time sometime on one of my first bicycle rides through the French Quarter with an x bf sometime in either the fall of 1993 or spring 1994...going to try and track my first picture of him to find the time stamp...but yeah, I first spotted Clyde Casey by the French Market parking lot loaded with percussionist sculpture that he was holding with his body. I had to do a double-take, see what he was up to, and take a photo. I thought he was definitely otherworldly, so unique, unafraid to be himself, and so glad I got to know him a little bit while I enjoyed playing on his mobile percussionist sculpture bicycle for many years through the French Quarter. I remember one year he told me he went to #BurningMan and I wish there were pictures or video of that but sooooo grateful of this recording done by #TedRiederer done while Ted was in Nola in the Fall of 2012 doing his #NeverRecords Project out of the old Jonathan Ferrara art space off Carondolet. Ted had converted the space into a classic record shop, art space, and recording studio and I stumbled upon it from walking around since I used to work in the area and enjoyed walking around the 800 blocks and such because it is the Arts District of New Orleans. I remember meeting Ted, Conor, and Stu and they were the nicest bunch...got to witness quite a few live recordings and learn of more local musicians that I had no idea of! Thank you Ted for capturing all those performances and Clyde Casey Halloween night performance which I attended on that street of the French Quarter that night. I think it's the best recording of him that I know of. Been losing a lot of people in the last 9 months....Thank you Clyde Casey for being who you were and including everyone who came into your path an opportunity to either participate or just watch a moment of creative freedom done is such in an improvisational, primal, artistic, universal, and magical way. I Will miss seeing you with your etching pen inscribing on the fork sculptures you made and just your presence in general on Frenchmen during Halloween, Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest....or at any unexpected time! Booogaaa Booogaaa! Sending Cosmic Love out in the Universe out to you and all...you will not be forgotten. https://soundcloud.com/ted-riederer/clyde-casey-halloween-live?fbclid=IwAR1Dstv6v7RjpqKqZWkaxielyYI4kcbd8pKzZ9sggYh-4cDO7DM5W7C3rgM

Clyde Casey and Beale Street

August 30, 2022
In the early 1980's I lived almost next door to Casey in Front Street in Memphis.  The Mighty Mississippi was our front yard.  Casey lived in the basement of a parking garage and I lived in an ancient cotton warehouse a couple doors away, both hippie artists/musicians playing on the street for a living.  Beale Street had been closed, abandoned, empty for more than a decade, but in the summer of 1983 it was fixing to reopen.   There were just a few bars, most of it was still vacant, but the two of us were there, every night, the first street band back on Beale Street in many years.  Others played with us as well, but it was Clyde Casey and Alex Wilds, me on a National Guitar belting out the blues, and Casey doing percussion, jokes, and balloon toys.      In those years Casey was still doing "musical necklace" - several wooden slot drums and assorted cymbals, whistles, airhorns - so we could march, and march we did, getting a second line going from one end of Beale to the other many times each night.  That or use the old Daisy Theatre as our personal stage.  At first we thought we might get run off, but the opposite was true - merchants would pay us to play in front of their stores to draw customers.    In November, 1983, I took off for Minneapolis, a better music scene for me.  I reckon Clyde moved to NOLA about that time.   R.I.P. to the best bandmate I ever had.

How to describe the ForkMeister?!

April 11, 2021
How do you describe someone as unique as Clyde Casey? He was one of those people that you would remember. Even a chance encounter with Clyde would be one of your strangest and most intriguing moments in life. Often found in the Quarter, banging away in on one of his crazy One-Man-Band contraptions, he spread music and joy like a trail of breadcrumbs.

Clyde's creations became a very significant part of my entire career. As I began performing and lecturing in the world of magic, other magicians noticed and adored my fancy fork bracelets. Across the globe, fans and friends requested that I carry Clyde's unique art with me so that performers I encountered had the chance to become a "fork Brother"! I remember arriving in MontPellier, France and being greeted by three magicians already wearing fork bracelets. I asked Clyde to create a special fork pin I presented to Shawn Farquhar when he was the guest of honor at 4F. Eric Roumestan and I wore our forks with such pride that my web designer decided the "fork de Lis" design was so indicative of my style, he should make it my logo! It's difficult to find a photo of me over the last 15 years when I'm not sporting my favorite piece of jewelry.

So, if you were lucky enough to cross paths with our resident alien life form, admired his gypsy drum mobiles, been greeted by the colander on a spring fedora, or have called yourself a fork brother or sister while showcasing one of Clyde Casey's pun-filled, lovingly engraved pieces, then join me in celebrating everything that was the life of the one and only ForkMeister!

Clyde Casey and his good deeds in Los Angeles

April 7, 2021
You may all know or not know this, but the magical and ever ebullient Clyde started Another Planet on skid row in downtown LA around 1985-86, which was a safe space for the homeless, at the corner of Wall and Boyd, to leave their stuff, get some food, watch a movie, or find some day work. He got it funded in a small but meaningful way by the city of LA. Sadly, the very day his funding was to be extended to a third year a homeless guy burned the place down, and the LA Times, with a photo, had something like the following headline: Another Planet Burns to the Ground. Sort of feels that way now, learning of Clyde's passing. I first met Clyde when he was the "security guard" watching the parked cars at night when Scott Kelman's Wallenboyd Theater was nearby. The last time I saw Clyde was at Zatar's in Hollywood at the open mic "Big Talk," probably way back in 1990 or 1991, though I remember it vividly, where we had a birthday celebration for him, whose life was all about celebration. New Orleans seems his perfect city. Safe travels on soft wings, Clyde.
