Her Life
April 2, 2016

Colette is survived by her husband of nearly sixty-five years, Dr. Paul Kalla, and their six children Dr. Peter Kalla (Lise) of Lexington, GA; Paul Gerald Kalla (Liz) of League City, TX; Patty Shoultz (Dan) of Columbia, SC; John Kalla of Auburn, AL; Kurt Kalla of Valley, AL; and Loretta Coar of Waycross, GA. In addition, she will always be remembered as Nana to her 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Mrs. Kalla was born on January 17, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. She and her husband were married on July 11, 1951. They came south to Auburn, Alabama in 1971 and for the past forty years they have resided in Valley, Alabama.

Colette was a most avid reader of books, magazines, and most anything written. She supported and utilized both the Hawkes Library in West Point and the Bradshaw Library in Valley. She also was a founding member of the Wise Old Owl Book Club, founded in 1977.

Mrs. Kalla was a registered nurse with a R.N. degree from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio. She did very little professional nursing due to a prolonged illness contracted in her last student year. However, she served the local health community with many years of volunteer services. She was a Lanett Memorial Hospital and a Chattahoochee Valley Hospice volunteer. She greatly enjoyed home visiting assistance assignments for hospice.

She and Dr. Kalla were great supporters of the arts. The Springer Theatre and Society in Columbus, Georgia; the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the Auburn University Telfair-Peet Theatre; the Shakespeare Festival Theatre in Montgomery, Alabama; and most of all the Painted Rock Arts Society were all devotedly attended and supported by them.
