Joe Denniston grew up part of a military family. His father served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. Somewhere around 1947 - 1952 my Father lived in Germany and graduated from Wiesbaden High School before heading off to the University of Notre Dame. During his time in Germany he watched many cities rebuild after World War II. He would talk about hearing and watching the planes for the Berlin airlift flying 24hrs a day. I was lucky enough to serve in Germany. My Mom and Dad came to visit and we had to visit Mainz because my father remembers the city being flattened by allied bombing. I  know this was very special for him to see how well Germany had recovered and was thriving.
