MÀMÁ!
A Tribute by Mubo Olasoko
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. I didn’t imagine that I will be writing a tribute for you so soon. When I saw you last in January 2021, you did not betray any weakness that suggests you will not be here with us for much longer, but God knows the best.
I have fond memories of Màmá from when her daughter Toyin and myself became friends in our late teens and we visited each other, Mama opened her house to all and sundry. Kindhearted, very accommodating, loving and generous to a fault. Her home was our play hub, food was always available in abundance and as children we could play in any part of the house without hinderance. A great mother, her life was exemplary she showed love to all, sacrificed her comfort and happiness for others.
We lost contact for some years but once we reconnected, Mama never held back. She will call me, ask after my family pray for me and even send me text messages and Whattsapp chats which she calls “letters”. I am amazed at how she deeply cares about both her biological and adopted children and how she reaches out to keep in touch even in her very old age.
I personally feel a sense of loss and sadness at your passing, but I will remember you for being always joyful, always hopeful and always with a word of encouragement. Heaven has gained a beautiful and an amazing soul, continue to rest in the bosom of your Maker.
Your loss is immeasurable, so is the love you left behind. Okun Iye mi lika, lika.
Adieu Màmá until we meet at the feet of Jesus on the resurrection morning.
