Her Life

From Keith with love, Happy Birthday MOM (09/23/2012)

September 23, 2012

Constance Lane Bernardo (Connie) was the oldest of five of the
Lane children (William, Janice, Leon and Dennis) to William and Alice Lee Lane. A graduate of Cleveland High School in Newark New Jersey
where she was a member of the high school twirling squad. One of her
passion then was her attempt at playing the violin. When Connie, as she
preferred to be called, was 12 or 13 years old our mother was hit by a car
traveling high speed. Our mother suffered Massive injuries ( broken
pelvis, hip and ribs). Doctors told her she would never walk again. In a
little more than a year Alice Lane walked out of the hospital and heading
Home.

During that time Connie took over the duties of running the house.

Constance carried that compassion of caring for family. When she started
her own family years later with Lester Bernardo Jr. La Familia
(The Family) always meant a lot to her and was a deep focus of her life.
She raised and cared for her three strong men (Lester, Keith and Leo).
Each has gone forth to grow their own families and brought the tradition
of compassion and ULa Familia to their own families. Today their families
grown and growing all share their love of Constance as a hub of their
family life. She will be missed and always be large part of all the Bernardo
lives going forward.

I know from my own point of view as Connie's "baby brother". She
will always be missed as my mom for a minute, was the first woman to tell
me how good looking I was (but not the last) and most of all as my big
sister. I'll always miss how her whole face smiled when she laughed, her
facial features of the Lane family women and her great food. Abien=ot my
dear sister. Till we meet again as the Lane Family in another place and
time. Abiento=t Connie.
