Cora Lynn Bettcher left this world for a better place on February 28, 2018. She was born in Oberlin, Ohio July 5th, 1967. Cora attended Huron High School through her sophomore year and graduated from Kingswood / Cranbrook School in Bloomfield, Michigan, where her interest in the art world was born.

She attended Boston University. In 1995, Cora opened her first gallery in Miami Beach and a few years later a second in Miami. Due to illness in 2005, she closed her galleries and was encouraged by a friend to move to Fort Myers, Florida

She is survived by her mother, Avis Williams and husband Hugh, Sullivan, Maine; her brother Tad Bettcher and wife Donna, North Yarmouth, Maine. She was predeceased by her father, Richard Bettcher, and paternal grandparents Louis and Leota Bettcher, and maternal grandparents, Gene and Esther Walker. Cora deeply loved her Ohio cousins, aunts and uncles.

There will be no service, only memories.

Still thinking about you, our late nite talks in '07 when you couldn't breathe, iodine, selenium, the radio, and all that other stuff. our Appalachian trail hike, other topics, glad you got to visit your mom alot after that, it was nice to see you recovering from that lousy Katrina. Yep, good benefits, those were some scary times C. I have the blue sphere on my desk that lets us communicate still, and that wonderful Tibetan bowl, and other little things. I was just thinking of you and wanted to put into words somewhere, that I'm gonna be ringing your bowl soon...V

We dated briefly when we both lived in NY, but stayed friends after. Such a beauty, and so smart. I remember her being so sweet with her Dalmatian puppy and thinking that one day she'll make a great mother. After introducing Cora to another woman friend of mine, the other woman said after, with some clear jealousy "Cora has the most perfect face I've ever seen." Sadly, I don't think Cora ever knew just how beautiful she really was.
Sad to hear about this.

Cora was my high school classmate at Kingswood School Cranbrook. We reconnected at a recent class reunion, discovering that both of us were inspired by art at the Cranbrook Schools, and that both of us went on to careers in the art world (mine being as a museum educator, currently at the Brooklyn Museum). It was a wonderful moment. I’m truly sorry to learn now of her passing, and that she wasn’t well in recent years. May her memory be a blessing to all, as it is to me.

I am so saddened by this news.
We were friends in college, and i saw her once in Miami in her art gallery. I was intimidated by her beauty and sophistication. It was because of this i didn't reach out to her more.
When i heard she was sick and living in Naples, i tried to connect her with my sister, a doctor. I talked to her mother, as did my sister. I'm not sure why nothing more came of it, but i did think over time she was doing better.
Heaven has a beautiful new angel. Rest in peace dear friend.

I never had the privilege of being a close friend with Cora, but I nevertheless feel privileged to have had our paths cross. What a kind, gentle, caring soul she was. And what a lover of art! Many times I have had my day brightened with the awesome art images she shared. You can see them yourself at this link:

Or just do a search at FB for "Cora Betcher"
I was shocked to find out about Cora's untimely passing or even what illness she struggled with. However, I am told that she participated in animal rescues in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina where there was a horrific mix of toxins and mold. That would be like her . . . sigh.

I never met Cora in person but was internet friends with her since 2007. We both shared a love of Art and I will miss all those incredible pictures she used to post on facebook. A very into it and intelligent woman. You will be missed Cora. My thoughts go out to her family....

Dear Avis, Tad and family: Cora will forever be my first friend in Huron. May she paint rainbows in the sky, which, when you look up and find them, will always bring you comfort and fond memories of her colorful soul. With love and peace, Laurel (Tommas) Greszler

Tad and family, You would have no way to know what a bright light Cora has been to me. I grew up under difficult circumstances and school was my escape. Cora, I know, recognized something in me, completely grabbed me by the arm and forced out of my shell.  Anyone who knows Cora, knows how she has that beautiful ability.  She made me realize that I am a pretty OK person who is really kind of funny sometimes. She gave me hope, then and again when she requested my friendship on facebook. Her soul is so bright, and her footprint so beautiful, that I wish I could scream it to the world!  Thank you all for sharing Cora with us, I think many of us here feel much the same way. My heart is breaking for you Tad, and you are on my mind daily. Blessings to your family, Tracy Bakewell.  Also, I do not feel Cora is gone, she has just relocated in a much better place!

When Cora lived in Chaska, we were hanging out one night in her bedroom like teenagers do. She had homework scattered around and was talking about some special hair conditioner called some name I’d never heard of but was definitely not the average Wella Balsam or Prell I used. I still remember feeling so out of place yet so comfortably at ease all at the same time - Cora had that ability. I felt like I had been transported to some big city girl’s Upper West Side apartment where she knew all the hip-cool-latest trends and I was just this dorky small town clueless girl. But the beauty, the wonder, of Cora was her ability to keep you right by her side without even a hint of condescension - she loved being the cool girl but never at the expense of someone else’s pride. I sat on the floor in awe of her as she bounced around the room, curls jumping with every step, telling me about the million things that popped into her head and it was amazing ~ like Seventeen magazine came to life!! She was so much more than our small town could ever be and one of the most unique people I’ve ever met. I will remember her beauty, her personality, and her warm smile ~ happy and carefree ~ just like when we were young!! xoxo Kathy
