Family First

January 27, 2019

There is no trace of a doubt that Cosmo always put his Family First. He was always available when you needed him and always present at family functions.Family was very important to him and he did not let his cancer or circumstances stop him from participating in Family events. It would have been much easier for him physically and emotionally to not do anything, but this was never his intention. He didn’t choose easy, but chose love and connection instead..

He proved this to us one last time when he showed up at our 2018 Family Christmas Dinner. It was not easy for him and his family to pack and bring all the machines and apparatus he needed to make the visit. Nor was it ever easy for him to see and smell the food he could not eat. But once again he proved that love and connection with family was a strong priority and always came first.

....his infectious laugh made everybody giggle...

Great Sense of Humor    Cosmo loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor.  One of the best memories I have is watching Joe Avati, the Australian, Calabrese Comedian together with Cosmo. All the brothers and sisters went to Joe Avati’s live performance when he was in town and we also watched his DVD’s several times.  This was a special time, because not, only were we able to connect with a fellow Calabrese, but we also felt a deep connection together as a family. The best part about being there with Cosmo was watching and listening to Cosmolaugh and have fun.  He giggled and laughed so hard, that it made everyone laugh even more.

....cat charmer?!

January 24, 2019

Cosmo the Cat Charmer:  When I went to visit, he would often greet me at the door with the cat wrapped around his neck like a fur collar.  Other times he would toss the cat up high into the air and then catch it on the way down.  I was always amazed at how the cat never scratched him or attempted to run away.   His feline friends were like putty in his hands.

...he was like a sprite was a fun side...

January 24, 2019

I would like to say that Cosmo had the warmest spirit. From the first time I met him, I felt welcomed into the family. His beautiful smile and open heart brought joy to me each and every time I saw him at family events. He was like a sprite with a fun side and a great sense of humour. I will cherish the memory of him forever in my heart.

I had to laugh....

January 23, 2019

My dad never liked perfumes or strong smells or scents from incense or soaps....

The day of his funeral, inside the church - during the last component of Mass....the priest proceeds to light the coal , to burn the incence that surrounds the casket and my fathers spirit....and it would not burn...multiple failed attempts and the priest had to proceed without it....I had to laugh! That was SOOO DAD. It was ALL him!

Even at his own funeral... he is making others laugh.  Love you Dad

Ingenious Self-taught projects...

January 22, 2019

I remember many good things about my brother, one that is  vivid in my memory at this time , is when we were still living in Italy and he made the nativity scene for us to display at Christmas. Cosmo hiked the hills to find clay and moss and then he preceded to make each statuette(including a cow and a donkey and sheep) from clay.  Once they statuettes were ready, he put together the manger which consisted of moss for the ground and twigs for trees and then arranged all the statuettes accordingly. Very impressive work for such young man. Mom was very proud of Cosmos accomplishments. - Maria Sundquist

He would have solutions to all problems...

January 20, 2019

Uncle Cosmo liked to show and teach you how to do new things.

In the mid 1980s, he trusted me as his personal mechanic for his mid 1970 Dart, doing oil changes and brake jobs, finally after after a couple of years the transmission started slipping, so he gave me the which I drove for 6 months before the went. That came in handly, as my vehicle was being repaired.

In 1986, Cosmo was instrumental in helping my dad build hid home on Edgar. As my dad was becoming overwhelmed with the building process, Uncle cosmo stepped in and basically acted as the general contractor for the build. He put me to work...when I come home from work. I learned a great deal about the home building process from Uncle Cosmo. The Rock walls around the Edgar home that I build were started by Uncle Cosmo coaching me and they are still standing....33 years later without any cracks! - Joe Pontellini

Acrobatic & Agile

January 19, 2019

Some memorable events that come to mind about my brother....His tree climbing ability. He was able to transfer from tree top to tree top by bending the top branches....Imitations of acrobatic circus acts, such as using a roller board, standing on someone's head in a pyramid, and walking on his hands on a diving board and then diving into the pool. (A local photographer from Port Coquitlam published it in the local newspaper. It was then shwn to the locals back in our home town of Serra San Bruno, Italy. - Nick Dominelli

Dedication to family was impeccable

January 19, 2019

Uncle Cosmo always made the effort to come to all the family events, even later on in life when he was fighting cancer. One moment which stands out to Marvin and myself was when he attended my son Domenic's baptism. He saw Marvin and I taking turns eating our meals and holding Domenic and we were struggling to multitask as new parents. He came over rignt away to give his helping hand and said, "let me take care of Domenic while you both ear, I am just sitting at the table and not eating." And he was so genuine and caring to Domenic like he had a natural touch with children all his life.  Uncle Cosmo will be definitely missed at our family gatherings but will never be forgotten.

...my most dear memory of Cosmo's Young at Heart Spirit

January 19, 2019

My brother Cosmo and I were watching TV, a documentary about the dance "The Twist" at his house. He had been standing watching the documentary when out of the blue, he made eye contact with me and started doing "the Twist", while connected to oxygen mask and IV tubes hanging and all...It was such a happy moment to witness and I will always smile and do the twist when I hear that song. - Viance Dominelli

During the last couple months, prior to his passing, Cosmo required constant oxygen delivered by a mask and while his brother-in law, Ken,  was visiting once- Ken starting coughing rather intensely and Cosmo offered Ken his mask to use, with a sheepish smile...

His fun, spontaneous youthful energy would shine through...

January 19, 2019

On the outside, some might see Cosmo as a quiet and reserved man. A deep thinker, a great listener, calm, cool and collected. Someone who avoids the spotlight and keeps emotions in check.  But he's turned that image on its head many times over. Numerous times his Young at Heart Spirit would bubble up for all to see. He would unexpectedly surprise everyone by dong a little jig as he walked across the dance floor on his way to the bathroom. And there was the time he shocked the family at his sister Vittoria's 60th birthday BBQ by stepping up to be the party entertainment on a moment's notice. The family will always have fond memories of cosmo lip syncing Tom Jones's "Its not unusual" and performing his best Tom Jones hip shaking dance moves. Whenever there was an opportunity, his fun, spontaneous and youthful energy would shine through...Twirling a hula hoop round and round, playing on the floor with children or whatever the flavour was the flavour of the moment. His Young at Heart Spirit was shining through till the end. -Viance Dominelli
