CAMP LE JEUNE, NC Corporal Charles O. Palmer, II, 36, formerly of Manteca, Calif., died on Saturday, May 5, 2007, in Khalidiyah, Iraq, in the line of duty. He was the husband of Tanya Palmer, to whom he was married for 5 years. He was born in Sacramento, Calif, on March 24, 1971, a son to Charles and Teri Palmer, of Manteca and Peggy and Ron Emmick of Lotus, Calif. Charles was last residing in Camp Le Jeune, N.C. with his family. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Charlie A. Palmer of Manteca, Calif.; stepchildren, Rebecca Whitlow and Brenden Whitlow, at home; a brother, Jason and wife, Aimee Palmer of Lotus, Calif; a sister, Jeni and husband, Caleb Kopp of Machesney, Ill; grandparents, David and Janet Dull of Manteca, LJ Porter of 29 Palms, Calif, and Mary Porter of Sacramento, Calif.; and a long time friend David Jones. Charles entered the Marines in 1992 serving 9 years of broken service. He was dedicated to protecting and serving. While in the service Charles was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorist Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, and the Rifle Marksman Shooting Badge.
