His Life

Craig's Life

May 20, 2012

Craig was born in Ada, Oklahoma to Peggy and Lionel Garrett.  He lived in Ada until he was 13.   While in Ada, he attended Hayes Elementary School and Ada Middle School.  He played Little League, played the trombone and loved animals.  He also became involved in politics - following the 1976 presidential election.

When he was 13, he moved to Marietta GA - outside of Atlanta - and attended Dodgen Middle School and then Walton High School.  He continued his interest in politics, becomming a big supporter of Gary Hart, and had a close group of high school friends. He was Treasurer of his Senior Class, Chairman of the Public Relations for the Key Club, in the Beta Club and a member of the German Honor Society.  During high school he worked at Luther's Bar B Q, Macy's, and Trust Company Bank.  He graduated in 1984.

He attended the University of Virginia, and graduated in the Distinguished Majors Program in Economics in 1988.  He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity (PIKA - as he called it), and had a wonderful (and wild) time in college.  He was the Community Service Chairman of his fraternity, was on the Student Activities Committee at UVA, and was on the Presidential Advisory Committee on Scheduling.

After college, he started work with Capital Group/American Funds in their CAP program.  He lived in LA, NY and DC while he was in the CAP intern program.  He continued to work for American Funds for over 20 years, and worked in Brea, CA and Hampton Roads, VA before settling in Indianapolis, IN for the last 15 years.

Craig loved music (mostly 70s and 80s music), movies, his cat, politics, and sports.

Craig is survived by his parents - Peggy Garrett & Lionel Garrett, and his sister - Carla Garrett, and his niece and nephew - Maya & Vikram Srinivasan.

Craig will be missed.
