Dad's cattle roundup on horse

September 13, 2018

One day Mom and Dad had been asked to help with gathering up some cows to be put in the catch pen for my Great Grandad (Granddaddy - John Poe). Well, Mom knew what to do to steer the cattle and what not but Dad was new to this. The pastures were split by a county road so they had to go through some gaps to get the cows across into the other pasture and into the catch pen there. Mom warned Daddy about the horse he was on in that the horse was bad about taking off when you get off his back so she told him to be sure to hold tight to the reins. Well....Dad HAD to be the one to get off the horse to open the gap because he was that kind of person. He always wanted to please Mom and be the one to help her. Well, unbenounced to him he did not heed Mother's words too well, LOL! He proceeded to get off the horse to open the gap and for those of you who have had to do this while holding onto a horse, much less one that would try to get away, know how tough that can be. Dad was not paying attention and the horse got away. Mom had to chase the horse down with her horse and catch it. Dad, in the meantime, had to walk back to the barn! LOL!
