His Life

Mack and King

February 3, 2015

Mack grew up in the Marianna/Chulahoma area of Marshall Co., MS.  He was raised with a first cousin, Linwood King, on the Davis farm in that same area.  King was 6 years older than Mack and always thought he was the one to watch over Mack all his life.  But as they grew older, Mack became larger & a better fighter than King, so the roles flip-flop, although you couldn't get King to admit that.
The cousins were raised by their maternal grandmother, Magnolia  Davis King Jones.  Magnolia was a child of Sam Davis & Delia Pegues. And she was raised on that same Davis Farm.  As far as I know, she never lived  anywhere else.  When the boys  were very small, Magnolia's son, Laythurmon and his family, lived and helped work the farm.  They moved on to Chiago.  Her second husband, Papa Collins Jones, was a sometime grandfather to the 2 boys.  He wasn't always around though.  Then Mack's step-father, Bubba Isaac Griffin, also played a part as a father figure.  Magnolia was a hard task master at times,  but the boys had a lot of good times also.  Mack's mother  and her 6 other children moved to the house on the Davis farm periodically.
