The Extraordinary Life of Dr. Cynthia Barker

January 16, 2019

Cindy lived a truly inspiring life.  Born in Los Angeles she grew up with her beloved sister, Marti, and her mother.  She married and has three children, Scott, Kimberly and Jennifer.   Cindy loved her children with her whole heart, she taught them to be kind and caring, but also how to be independent and strong. Cindy would go on to get degrees from the La Verne University, Cal Poly Pomona and the Graduate Institute where she earned her doctorate in psychology.  She worked as a social worker in LA County, as a counselor in private practice, and for the Department of Defense for over twenty years. Working with the Army, Navy and Marines and specializing in the treatment of PTSD and helping families of service members.  She would earn the highest honor bestowed on civilians in the Armed Services for her dedication in war time.

In 2016 Cindy was diagnosed with ALS.  She navigated this disease like she did her entire life, with courage, strength and humor. Cindy is survived by her three children, three grand-children, 8 furry grand-children,  her great-aunt, and many, many friends.

Mom it is with love that we say goodbye for now.  You live on in our hearts and with the legacy you left us with.  We will love you forever.
