Cruising Along

August 17, 2014
Wide Open Spaces - More Love

When I think of all the many memories I've had with Uncle Dale, one stands out clearly in my mind. I remember it would be Uncle Dale, little Dale, & I riding in his truck. We would either always be riding to a job he had to do, or out cruising about to the many places he would take us. We didn't care because he always made it fun & worthwhile. One day we went out riding, us three. We would always listen to music. One CD that would be a popular choice, was the Dixie Chicks or the occasional Toby Keith. This time he chose to put in the Dixie Chicks. I remember him asking me & little Dale if we knew what was being said in the song. Of course little Dale & I just liked it for the sound. There he went, explaining to us as if he were re-creating the story of the song, word by word. Ever since then when I heard a song I liked, I was able to identify the meaning rather than hearing it from just the musical standpoint. Uncle Dale did everything he could & more for us kids. Even if it was just staying home listening to his guitar, going out on the snowmobile & sleds, riding the waves on the boat on a warm sunny day, water gun fights, removing impossibly deep splinters, & camping to name a few. No matter what, he made sure we always had a smile on our faces. I will miss him so much. He was a loving Uncle & I am glad I am able to cherish all the memories he gave to me. I love you!
