Daniel Doucette from Jackson, MI, age 58, was freed from the chains of addiction on May 4, 2021.
Dan was born September 21, 1962 in Minneapolis, MN, but considered Michigan his home for many years.
Many knew Dan only through the lens of his addictions he battled for years.  That wasn’t the real Dan though.  Those fortunate enough to truly know him immediately recognized him as a loving, caring person who would give the shirt off his back to help a friend in need; one who deeply loved his family (parents, brother and sister, his children and grandchildren); one who reached out to guide others also suffering from addiction.
Through his recovery journey he was able to make amends with many and had the priceless, wonderful opportunity to bond with some of his children and grandchildren.  Dan fought his demons for years, and truly sought God’s help during his struggle.  He knew Jesus Christ as his savior and it was He who decided that Dan had struggled long enough and brought him home peacefully.  He'll truly be missed.
We invite people to leave notes below.  There is also a separate stories section (look above) where you can share memories of times spent with Dan.  Anyone can upload photos or videos to the gallery, as well.

The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi

Shared by David Doucette on May 11, 2021
Dan was scheduled to sing this song (The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi) at a football game in Fairmont, in 1979, in the announcers booth.  The moment came and nothing was heard.  It turned out the sound system wasn't working!  He did sing it, but nobody in attendance heard it.

Later that year, a hypnotist came to town and there was a show in the high school auditorium.  Dan and a bunch of kids were called out of the audience to go up to be hypnotized.  The hypnotist picked a small number of people to perform in various ways.  Somehow, as luck would have it, he asked Dan to sing a song.  The song he sang, with a microphone and full sound system, in front of a captive audience, was The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.

I always called Dan “Frenchie”. It’s what I met him as in 1983 and what I always called him, I always will. We had our differences but he gave me the best gift of my life, our daughter, Amber. He lives on through her and our grandchildren and as much as he thought he was alone, he wasn’t. That is addiction but he is free now and I wish him the peace he struggled so hard to find. Rest safe with God, I am glad I talked to you recently and you will be missed.
