Dan was scheduled to sing this song (The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi) at a football game in Fairmont, in 1979, in the announcers booth.  The moment came and nothing was heard.  It turned out the sound system wasn't working!  He did sing it, but nobody in attendance heard it.

Later that year, a hypnotist came to town and there was a show in the high school auditorium.  Dan and a bunch of kids were called out of the audience to go up to be hypnotized.  The hypnotist picked a small number of people to perform in various ways.  Somehow, as luck would have it, he asked Dan to sing a song.  The song he sang, with a microphone and full sound system, in front of a captive audience, was The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.

I always called Dan “Frenchie”. It’s what I met him as in 1983 and what I always called him, I always will. We had our differences but he gave me the best gift of my life, our daughter, Amber. He lives on through her and our grandchildren and as much as he thought he was alone, he wasn’t. That is addiction but he is free now and I wish him the peace he struggled so hard to find. Rest safe with God, I am glad I talked to you recently and you will be missed.
