A Brief Biography of Late Daniel Hypolite Agugoh

(01/12/70 – 28/02/16)

Late Architect Daniel Hypolite Agugoh was born on December 1, 1970 in Port Harcourt to the family of Pa. Daniel Enujeko Agugoh and Madam Beatrice Adaine Agugoh (both of blessed memories) of Umu-Idi Quarters, Igbuzo, Aniocha North LGA, Delta State.

Daniel grew up on Bishop Johnson Street and Aggrey Road in Port Harcourt where he had his basic education:

Primary education at State School One, Churchill Road, Port Harcourt between 1976 and 1983. Secondary education at Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Port Harcourt

His keen interest in the technical sciences as well as his widely-acknowledged hands-on skills led him to study Architectural Technology at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State where he obtained the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in 1994. He subsequently proceeded to Lagos for his HND in Architectural Technology at the prestigious Yaba College of Technology from where he graduated in 1998.

The mandatory National Youth Service Corps took him to Ondo State where he served his fatherland from 1999 and 2000. He got his first post-service job almost immediately after youth service and from December 2000 to April 2003, worked as a Resident Project Architect with Padarch–Team Nig. Ltd.

The scope of his work at Padarch covered providing schematic designs to the planning and supervision of building construction projects. These projects included renovation and construction of new residential and commercial structures as well as overseeing civil and structural work to required specification.

Whilst at Padarch-Team Nig. Ltd., he obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. Upon completion of his PGD in 2002, Dan proceeded abroad in search of greener pastures.

While abroad in Italy, renowned as the home of antiquated and contemporary architecture, he was employed by Camerani & Meldolesi Srl. Ravenna Italy, as an Architect/Project Manager. His job with the company included designing, site supervision and project management. He supervised all activities on their construction sites to ensure compliance with specifications.

'Lito (as he is fondly called), on his return from Europe in 2006, got married and the marriage was blessed with children.

Between 2008 and 2009, he was engaged by Lonsdale Nig. Ltd. as a sub-contractor to build a branch of First Bank of Nig. Plc. in Amaraku at Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State. He supervised, constructed, built and handed over the premises to the bank within the stipulated time schedule.

In July 2009, he was appointed the Executive Director, Operations, Lantana Homes and Properties Nig. Ltd. While there, he managed the acquisition process and supervision of the clearing of site for the Luxurious Creek Estate Project at the Azikoro Community in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He was also engaged in the conceptual analysis and design process of the above mentioned estate project.

Dan later resigned to return to Padarch-Team Nig. Ltd as the Chief Executive Officer/Lead Consultant, a position he held till his untimely death.

As the Chief Executive Officer of Padarch Team Nig. Ltd., an Architectural/Civil Engineering/Real Estate firm, he designed, planned, supervised and constructed private, commercial buildings and civil structural works in Lagos, Abuja, Asaba, Owerri, Akure and Port Harcourt.  In 2013, Padarch Team Limited became the sole and accredited partner of IdealWorks, Italy, for decorative stamp concrete floor/pavement in Nigeria.

A quintessential family man, Daniel Agugoh, fondly called Lito by his close friends, never took anything that concerned his family for granted. His children were the centre of his life and he always ensured they got the very best he could afford. A stickler for cleanliness and a hands-on father, he rarely called on artisans to do basic domestic repairs for him. He’d rather get the necessary spare parts and fix the problem himself. A food lover and good cook, it was not uncommon to see him at the market buying food ingredients so much the market women knew him for his price-consciousness.

He also believed in being actively involved in his community and was until his death the Zonal Chief Security Officer of his zone in Ogudu GRA. A sports lover, Dan spent his leisure moments watching his beloved Arsenal FC, playing table tennis with close friends at the Ogudu GRA Recreation Club or biking around the estate.

Late Daniel Agugoh will be remembered for being a firm believer who never saw impossibilities. For him, with God all things were possible. A blunt and extremely frank being, he never spoke from both sides of the mouth; you always knew where he stood on matters and he often gave advice on issues even beyond his age.

He is survived by his wife, children, brothers, sister, cousins, and in-laws.
