His Life

Cpl. Daniel John Kluthe was born on the family farm northwest of Dodge on January 19,1933 to Conrad and Mary (Knuste) Kluthe. He attended Sacred Heart Academy In Olean and grew up on the family farm.

On March 2, 1953 Daniel was drafted into service for the United States during the Korean War. He was sent to Fort Omaha where he was inducted into the Army. Then he boarded the bus which took him to Camp Crowder, Missouri then from there he was sent to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas for Basic training. After training he was sent to Camp Gordan, Georgia for Military Police training. He was sent to Lompac, California to be a Military Policeman at the Disciplinary Unit of the U.S. Army, where he served the entire time of his service time. He reached the rank of Corporal while stationed at Lompac and received his Honorary Discharge on March 1, 1955.

After returning home, Daniel married Mary Ann Niewohner in Snyder, NE on April 12, 1955. They devoted their lives to operating their family farm northwest of Dodge and raising 4 wonderful children. Danny (Josie Ruzek) of Dodge, Donald (Roxanne Alter) of Omaha, Mary Joe (Dale Brichacek) of Rogers, and Geri Ann (Scott Deines) of Fremont.

Daniel and Mary Ann were lifelong members of Sacred Heart Church in Olean. Daniel was very involved with the Knights of Columbus Council #5439 of Howells. He held many offices in the Council and was a District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus for 4 years. Daniel was also the member of the Catholic Order of Foresters #1739 of Olean. Daniel was a member of the Dodge Legion Club #122 and served as their Commander for serveral years.

Daniel and Mary Ann enjoyed their family and grandchildren, square dancing, playing cards, and their friends.

Daniel lost his life on April 28, 2003 in an accident while mowing a road ditch on the amily farm on which he was born.
