Retired Staff Sergeant Daniel Mark Kartchner, 66, passed
away peacefully on October 5, 2021, at his home in Sumner, Washington from a
very short battle with Pancreatic Cancer. A memorial service will be held at noon
Saturday, October 9, 2021, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
located at 512 Valley Avenue in Sumner, Washington. A private burial will be
held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington. Arrangements are being
made by the Curnow Funeral Home. Dan is the son of the late Dean Kartchner and
Geraldine Loyd Kring. He was born on July 12, 1955, in Palmdale, California. He
attended Auburn High School, graduating in 1973, and immediately joined the
United States Army. He served in the Armed Forces for over forty years and
engaged in multiple overseas deployments, including Operation Iraqi Freedom. He
finished up his military career as a Vessel Master, which he loved dearly.
Later in life, he earned his Associates's Degree from Green River Community
College in Auburn, Washington. His employment came from many diverse industries
including shipyards, truck driving, and Boeing. He was a faithful member of The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1974, Daniel married Debra Kay
Murdock. They were later divorced. On January 13, 2018, he married Oredolapo
“Dolly” Oyindamola Ojo in Uyo, Nigeria. He is survived by his wife, Dolly of
Sumner; four sons and six daughters, Shannon (Kelly) Hudson of Alaska, Eva
(David) Rodarte, Adam (Amy) Kartchner, Deanna (Donald) Nussbaum, Crystal Shaw,
Helaman Kartchner, Lucy Kartchner, and Daniel “DJ” Kartchner all from
Washington along with Veronica Akinwande and Oluwafunmike Kartchner from
Nigeria. He had thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also survived by
brothers, David Kartchner, Steven Kartchner and sisters, Kathy Garman (Russ)
and Kristi Anderson, along with Brother-in-law Scott Swanson, all from Washington.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dean (Reba) Kartchner and Geri (Rudy)
Kring and sister Karen Swanson. Our family wishes to thank everyone for their
love, support, and generosity during the loss of our husband, father, grandpa,
and great-grandpa. We are going to miss him and can’t wait to be with him again
forever.
We will remember him forever.
