His Life

A Journey ends

February 6, 2016

Dan raised his family in Tema, and settled in Community 2 for most of his life travelling often to his home town Bole to deal with family, deaths, and chieftaincy matters. He also travelled several times to the US to visit his daughters, sons and grandchildren and do periodic medical check-ups and some shopping. Though most of these trips to the United States were about rest and relaxation, there were exceptions. Indeed his 1st wife - Hajia Adisah of Bole died in California on January 2nd 1999 on one such trip to deal with her failing health at the time. In early Sept. 2015 with his condition getting worse by the week, Dan decided to do another California trip to be with his daughters and seek medical consultation and treatment. Unfortunately his condition was too far along and could not be treated and he did not make it back. He died peacefully on 2nd January 2016 at the home of his daughter sourrounded by loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Hajia Adisah of Bole, and he leaves behind his second wife Hajia Masata of Bole, five children with his first wife [Osman Yahaya (Ghana), Memuna Mercy Yahaya (USA), Alfreda Afisah Eghan (USA), John Yahaya (Ghana), Mahama Yahaya (USA)], seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The ‘Chief’ as he was known in some circles was buried at the Los Gatos Memorial Park, Los Gatos, Ca, USA  on Friday January 8th 2016 as religious tradition demanded. Other traditional funeral rites were observed in Bole on the 11th of January 2016. The traditional Gonja “12th day Ardua” observance was held in Bole on the 14th of February. There was a 40th day celebration of life gathering at his residence in Tema near the Ghapo Club house on the 21st of February 2016.
