I wanted to thank Danita's family for the wonderful ceremony they provided for Danita today and for allowing us to be a part of that. I worked with Danita for many years at Telcordia. She had a great spirit and added so much to our team through the years. She would tell me stories of the church dinners and events that she would help organize and I know she would appreciate all the effort and contributions that went into today's amazing ceremony. I will always remember Danita with very fond memories. My heart extends to you all with sympathy. God Bless. - Robyn Gerin (Telcordia)
Victorious (invictus)
Out of the night that covered you,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For your unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
You did not wince nor cry aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
Your head was unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Found you unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
Nor how charged with punishments the scroll.
You were the master of your fate:
You were the captain of your soul.
I love you always Aunta Danita- Your nephew Kwesi
My sister in Christ, Danita
In loving memory of my sister in Christ, Danita,
To My Sister
Words are hard to come by at this time.
I will always Cherise the moments with you growing up from babies to adults. You were truly an inspiration and source of strength to my family and me here in Tennessee; especially during my challenging times in life.
Many times I might not have understood you but your love, support and concern for my family and me was endless.
I will miss you (as the tears roll down my cheeks) but I do know you have gone on to a better place where you have no more suffering and have achieved spiritual perfection.
Always love to you my Sister - You live within my memories.
Your Brother,
Daryl

Danita Evelyn (Daniels) Holmes
Danita was God's "Gift" to us- Thomas E. and Maxine L. (Harris)-Daniels 50 (fifty) years ago. We accepted our 'Gift' to love and nurture for our lifetime. All the attributes that came with Danita made her unique in every sense of the word and a joy to raise. In accepting our 'Gift' (Danita) we set out to lovingly and carefully nurtured her through our life-time.
We chose to use as our tools of work, church, home, school and college to advance Danita's awareness of the world surrounding her. She excelled in all respects- body, mind, and spirit. We marvelled and were delighted in her creativity shown through song, word, dance, and learning. Danita achieved, most often with honors and recognition as she became involved in a multitude of endeavors. She contributed to society using the skills, know how, and hard work. She made a difference in our family, in the church, in the community locally, statewide, and nationally.
Through Danita's years in school, she achieved and graduated at each level with honors and recognition. In college, at the University of Delaware, she embraced sisterhood with a number of friends and young women in becoming a member of the sorority - Alpha Kappa Alpha.
After graduating from Delaware University, Danita married her fellow firend and sweetheart, Charles Holmes IV, in August 1987. They too, were blessed with the gift of fraternal twin boys- Charles V and Daniel in October 1993. They shared the outstanding rearing (together) of Charles V and Daniel to the age of 16 years. They shared in the outstanding achievements of their sons. They passed on to their sons, a love for learning and a sense of participation and involvement.
On becoming widowed in 2010 from her husband, Lt. Col. Charles Homes IV, Danita assumed the role of ushering their sons into young adulthood, where in 2 months they will graduate from high school as outstanding students. While they have been accepted by many colleges and universities, they are seriously accepting enrollment at the University of Deleware, following in the footsteps of both their parents, in choosing the University of Deleware, to pursue their college education.
Danita was her own person. These are the attributes that guided her education:
Danita-
- had confidence in herself
- had a strong sense of purpose
- never sought to make excuses for not doing something
- always worked her hardest to achieve perfection
- never considered the idea of failing
- worked the hardest to achieve the goals she set for herself, knowing what these goals were
- understood her weaknesses and her strenghts
- benefited from criticism
