This memorial website was created in memory of Daria Dittmer Hardin, Annapolis, Maryland: May 16, 1969-September 26, 2007.  She loved her friends and family very much and would want everyone to always remember the good times and special occasions.

Thanks, Cindy. I don’t remember that but it’s certainly what Daria would’ve done!

I have to chuckle today at a lovely memory of Daria--Ed, Daria, Greg, and I were all at the Smithsonian, looking at the exhibit of presidents, and Natalie was with us. She was about 4. After looking carefully at all the president exhibits, Natalie asked, "Where are the girl presidents?" Ed and I both said something along the lines of, "There aren't any girl presidents," and left it at that. Daria, however, told Natalie that they would look at the Supreme Court exhibit, where there were judges who were girls. And so they did. Daria was so good at taking a negative (no girl prezzes!) and turning it into a positive experience.

She would be so very proud of her daughters-such wonderful young ladies in every way: kind, generous, smart, active, talented, loving, funny, and fun.

Daria was the most handy person I thimk I ever met! All she needed was a plan and directions. She mitered the crown molding in the dining room, sewed, and cooked with aplomb. IShe would be so proud of her equally talented daughters.

I remember when you and Ed came to visit me in VT in the summer of 2000--what a great time! You cooked a dish of artichoke hearts, chicken, ramps, and pasta, and it was so good.

Happy birthday, Daria--nine of your birthdays have passed without you here, and I've thought about you and missed you at every one of them. You had some great birthdays, though, and I was so lucky to be able to spend many of them with you. It was always a lot of fun taking you somewhere nice for dinner on your birthday. It just occurred to me that I'm wearing my Carolina jacket as I write this--forgive me honey! :-)

To my wonderful Daria. We miss your love, your brilliance and you wit! Each and every day I think of some fond memory;when you were a child, a teenager, a swimmer, a loyal Blue Devil, and especially a wonderful wife and mother.
You left us an amazing legacy! We love you!

Thank you, Anya, for creating this. I want to write more later, but for now, just let me say that we will never forget her; her birthday is this month---so this is a good time to see this memorial.

Daria left me with so many memories and two wonderful and precious girls. It's important to keep her memory alive for Natalie and Andrea, of whom she'd be so proud. Their sister Lily was only with us for 20 days but she will never be forgotten, either.

I'm not good at keeping in touch with Daria's family and old friends but I know they still love her and think of her from time to time since her passing. I will add pictures and stories to this site over time and I hope some of you reading this will do as well. If you see photos I post that you want to comment on, I welcome you to do that.

I want to thank my wife Anya for her help and encouragement in establishing this online memorial."

We left flowers for Daria today and someone had already placed a single red rose at her memorial.

Last family photo

April 10, 2016

This was the last photo that I have of Daria, and one of the few of her holding Andrea.  She passed away a couple of weeks after it was taken. Despite all she had gone through that summer, she still had a smile on her face.  Thanks to Bridget Smith for providing it to me.
