Dear Kay, Marcia, Charlena, Charles, Lamar (Harton), Haddan, Tyrone:

I am sending heartfelt condolences to you on Darrold's passing.    Death is always sad and distressing;  and when it is a sibling it is even more so.    I find that any words one searches for to express sympathy are inadequate.   Nevertheless, it is the only thing we can do at this distance and if you can hug each other for us those embraces will act as a sign of our love

We love you and will remember you and Darrold's soul in our prayers

I had the opportunity to speak to your mother and I know you will give her the support she so badly needs at this difficult time.

With much love,
Enid, Lola, Letteria, Doyle, Abraham.

To My Family from Darrold Simon

March 15, 2012

This letter was written by Darrold to his family on his hospitalization in New York

For all the good I've known during the days that have passed, I am  very grateful. I know that I have not always responded with my best effort, but I often did earnestly try. I have tried to give my family Love and Devotion, and I pray that I may grow more loving as the years passes.

Even as I regret my weaknesses, I rejoice in my accomplishments. Let these achievements, O Lord, lead to many others. May I be blessed with the sense of having grown with goodness and compassion, I pray.

TO MY DEAREST AUNT MARIE,

CHARLENA, CHARLES, HADDAN, KAY, TYRONE, MARCIA AND HARTON; YOU ARE ALL MUCH MORE THAN COUSINS TO ME, YOU ARE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS. WE SHARE A SPECIAL PRECIOUS GIFT WE CALL LOVE.  AND EVEN THOUGH OUR LIVES LEAD US IN ALL DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS, LOVE IS WHAT KEEPS US TOGETHER.

MY HEART IS HEAVY WITH SADNESS AS I MOURN NOT ONLY MY MOTHER BUT NOW OUR BROTHER DARROLD.  AUNT MAR, I DON'T KNOW OF ANY WORDS AT THIS TIME TO COMFORT YOU BUT I DO KNOW THAT YOUR SON GAVE HIS LIFE TO THE LORD AND WAS VERY VERBAL AND COMPASSIONATE WHENEVER HE SPOKE OF THE LORD.  I DON'T THINK HE WAS AFRAID TO DIE. I CAN ONLY PRAY THAT YOU FIND SOME COMFORT IN KNOWING HE'S WITH THE LORD.

DARROLD, YOU HAVE GONE HOME TO REST BUT YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. I HAVE MEMORIES THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME.

DARROLD HAD AN OLD “SOLE” FROM A YOUNG AGE.  HE WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO GO THE EXTRA MILE TO LEND A HELPING HAND WHEREVER IT WAS NEEDED.  NO JOB WAS BENEATH HIM.   WE HAVE SPENT COUNTLESS WEEKENDS HANGING OUT IN QUEENS.  HE WOULD COME STRAIGHT FROM WORK ON FRIDAY AND LEAVE WHEN KAY AND I LEFT FOR WORK ON MONDAY.  HE WAS VERY CHARISMATIC, ESPECIALLY WITH THE ELDERLY.  THEY WERE ALWAYS CLAIMING HIM AS A SON OR GRANDSON.  THAT IS THE KIND OF PERSON I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER.

DARROLD, YOU HAVE LEFT US A LEGACY OF MEMORIES THROUGH YOUR LOVE FOR COOKING, YOUR WILLINGNESS TO HELP, YOUR LOVE FOR YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS.  LAST BUT NOT LEAST, LET US NOT FORGET ALL THOSE HEATED FAMILY DEBATES (MOSTLY BETWEEN KAY LAWRENCE AND HIMSELF) - WHERE THE NEIGHBORS WOULD SOMETIMES COME OVER TO BREAK UP THE FIGHT, ONLY TO FIND DARROLD AT HIS BEST - HANDS IN THE AIR, WHILE PACING THE FLOOR GETTING HIS POINT ACROSS WITH A VOICE AS LOUD AS THUNDER.

IT IS WRITTEN… “TO BE ABSENT IN THE BODY IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD”.  DARROLD WE LOVE YOU BUT GOD LOVES YOU BEST.

YOU WILL SURELY BE MISSED.

 Remembering by Jordan Belisle
I will remember your bravery and love
The caring and watchful eye
Which now stares on us from above

To me you're more than an Uncle,
You’re truly a great friend.
Someone I could pour my thoughts out to
Knowing you'll cherish them to the end.

You've always made me happy,
I hope you can truly see.
You're more than just an Uncle,
You’re also a great friend to me

But now you’re in a better place
Watching from above
Making sure I am safe

Love You Uncle Darrold

The Loss of my cousin, my brother, my friend ....From Lisa

My eyes filled up with tears as I heard the news
It never occurred to me, how much I could lose
I find myself wishing that it wasn't real
Every time I think about it, pain is all I can feel
Tears fall from my eyes, I can barely see
But my heart tells me that he'll always be with me
I’m glad he feels no pain now-he lives in a perfect land
I can still feel the soft touch on my shoulder of his loving hand
I lie in bed and cry at night
And I don’t feel any better in the morning light
And I will love and miss him forever
Until the day we are again together.
Together in that perfect place above,
Filled with caring, sharing and love
But until that day comes- I will wipe my tears away.
And hopefully see him again someday

At the end of each phone call, the last thing he tells
me is I love you sis, and give the boys a hug and tell them I
love them. He genuinely cared for me and my boys, always commends  me on the great job I am doing as a single parent, always telling me
how strong I am and continue to do what I am doing.

                            Love you back Darrold

                                       To Darrold

I first met Darrold in the Summer of 1981 while dating his sister, Marcia. We were both teenagers at the time trying to find our way through life. He looked me over and gave me  that “look”, the one only Darrold could.

Six years later, on Sept 5th 1987, I again got that “look”; this time at my wedding to Marcia. He told me in his broadest Creole,” Yu wid mi sista now 100%”.

Throughout the years I would get that “look” and it finally dawned on me what the look meant. This was Darrold’s way of showing me acceptance into his inner circle, his immediate family, of which he loved and protected so much.

What I’m going to miss most about Darrold is his unconditional love for his family (including my son Jordan who he would call on a daily basis to check on) and his commitment to his beloved homeland Belize. BTW-your party won the elections 2 days ago by a slim margin.

In closing, I know that you are now in a better place and from up above I still will be getting that “look”, only this time with a big smile on your face.

Much love

Belisle
