Ramey, David A., age 66 of Kettering passed away Monday, August 20 at Kettering Hospital. David was born on August 17, 1952, to Claude J. and Naomi D. Ramey in Princeton, West Virginia; both parents are deceased.

In 1968, David joined the Mad River Township Volunteer Fire Department as a cadet. When he turned 18, he became a volunteer firefighter. David served several positions during his time on the fire department. He had a passion for serving and loved firefighting. He was also a custodian for Dayton Public Schools for over 20 years.

David met his wife, Debbie Hawkey, when she was a cadet/firefighter at the firehouse. They married in August of 1980.  They have five children, Janell Elaine, Angel Harmony, Jacob Cletus, Hannah Rene’, and Gabriel David; and granddaughter Alexandria Leach. He is also survived by his brother Douglas Ramey and sister Brenda Stanley. David is survived by his loving father-in-law, James Hawkey (Brenda), sister-in-law Tina Baker (Robert), and sister-in-law Jamie Hawkey. He was preceded in death by his nephew and niece, Paul and Tammy Stanley; beloved grandmother, Mary E. Mitchell, and cousin, Douglas Mitchell. David had a very fond  heart for all of his nieces and nephews — he love them very much.

On Thursday, August 23, there will be a memorial service for David Ramey. It will be held at Kettering Assembly of God, 2250 East Stroop Road, Kettering, Ohio. Family will receive visitors starting at 4:00 PM with a short memorial service at 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, consideration for the family’s expenses would be greatly appreciated or donations may be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation at www.firehero.org.
