1970 Baseball Season - David was selected to play on the Richmond Steelworkers Baseball Team for eleven game season!
On one special game, Mom was busy, so I atnd in the 3d inning, and saw David stroll up to the plate, dressed in his glstening clean white jersey, showing his bold blue color # 1 in the sunlight. He got to the plate, tapping his bat on the plate, and stood tall, waiting for the pitch, Shaking might be a better word, after all David was not yet 7, and facing a unknown baseball thrower, is concerned for all.
Taking the next pitch that reached David homeplate area, David reached &
swung that bat around, slapping the ball in the middle of the plate, and arching that little white ball some 85 feet between 2 nd base and CenterFiielder. David ran, reaching lst Base, while his coach continued saying, "Go Go, rounding 2nd Base, everyone was hollaring Go Go, he continued to run, not looking - just running, easily picking his feet and and laying them down. Another loud Coach, bellowing GO HOME, as David rounded 3d Base, heading to Home Plate, everyhone seemed to forget about the incoming baseball, however David touched Home=plate, and some 21 adults in the Steelworkers section all cheered and surrounded David all dressed with a BRIGHT BLUE "S" in THEIR bright white color CAPS, centered on their smiling faces and uncomb hair, each player hugging, and doing something the Coaches called "Give Me Five"
