David Danson Pettigrew, beloved husband, devoted father, brother and uncle, passed away Sunday morning December 4, 2022, at 9 am at Kettering Health, Washington Township at the age of 77.

David was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 15, 1945. He married Elaine Marie O’Rourke on December 21, 1974. David was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a software engineer, and then as a manager at Court of Common Pleas, and later as a manager at Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, all in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
He, his wife and young children then moved to Centerville, a suburb of Dayton, Ohio and has lived there with his family ever since. He worked for Mead Corporation and Lexis Nexis as a systems designer. He then started his own company and designed and built computer-modeled CNC controls for production machinery in Dayton.
David was an amazing husband and father, always giving his best to care for, love, and support his wife and children. He was a “What can I do for you?” person. No home or engineering project, remodel or reconfigure was ever too much for him. He loved to design, build, and create new solutions for every challenge they ever faced, starting with designing and building their first home (from scratch) with his wife, to conceiving, designing and building multiple energy solutions for better health, to remodeling 3 entire homes after he retired. He truly was an amazement to those closest to him.
David is survived by his wife Elaine Pettigrew (72), son Marc Pettigrew of Centerville, Ohio (44), daughter Erica Pettigrew of Centerville, Ohio (43), sister Sharon Brumagin of Greenville, Pennsylvania, sister Laurie Kerr of Union City, Pennsylvania, Uncle John (Jack) Pettigrew and wife Barbara of Cincinnati, Ohio; his cousins Todd Pettigrew, Craig Pettigrew, Dale Pettigrew, Bonnie Luedtke, Marlene Hunt, Linda O’Donnell, Patty Varney and Kathy Paul.
He is preceded in death by his father, David Danson Pettigrew (January 2012) and his mother, Rosalind J. Klemp (May 1997). David’s ashes will be spread by his family privately. A “Celebration of Life” gathering will be held sometime on the weekend of June 10th.
