Happy Birthday

November 13, 2020
Another year and you are still missed so very much. God knows what the truth is and others will have to answer about their things posted. We would have celebrated 30 years of marriage in May and I know how many times you told me that you were so happy with our life together and I was your best friend. My Love is still as much as always and one day we will be rejoined.. Sherry

Another milestone

November 8, 2019
We sold your house. It's so hard to do. I miss you so much! Life has gone on but without the joy it had being with you. You were my daddy, my friend, my hero. Will the hurt ever ease enough to enjoy life again? I miss knowing that I had someone here who loved me unconditionally and completely. I thank God for giving me a daddy who taught me how to love equally, without favoritism. I know you meant for things to be different in your leaving, and I have tried to follow your wishes to the letter. I am sorry I couldn't get it all straight. Sherry has done everything you warned me about, and more. I will try to do all I can to honor you in spite of that. I hope my life continues to make you proud of me. You are forever, daily, every moment missed.

This is a song that Chris wrote for Papa

December 20, 2012

Every day gets a little bit longer

Every breath a little bit shorter

The sand is falling its almost out

I cant escape cause deaths about

Another hero leaving and I’m on the run

Can’t bring myself to see him before the sand is gone

Sirens ringing, the car is drove by death

Couldn’t see him before he left

The walls are screaming the pavements laughing

Death took my hero and its all too frightening

Where will you be when another hero falls

What will you do when you feel you've lost it all

When everyone watches in wonder

Every punch like a clap of thunder

My world crumbles, my hero is gone

No more life, I try to hang on

It's like superman to kryptonite

I went crazy when he lost the fight

The glass shatters, I fall apart

His whole life was like a work of art

A navy vet respected by all

I can't stand to see another hero fall

Where will you be when another hero falls

What will you do when you feel you've lost it all

Another hero dead, another chance to shine

Another time to show who you are

No more turning back, no more wasting time

Keep your head up when your life is on the line

It can't be taken and can't be ruined

Just look to the skies and you’ll get through it

When one hero falls, another always rises

One with new unexpected surprises

You can be that one if you only try

So spread your wings and believe you can fly

Where will you be when another hero falls

What you gonna do when you feel you've lost it all

Stop all the running and stop all the hiding,

Just live your life and it's very surprising

The walls you stare at will all fall

If only you have the courage to stand tall

It won't come to you, you have to go to it

Get up and let the world know you're there

Walk outside and take a breath of fresh air

You're the next hero to stand in line

They're gone and now its your time,

End all the sorrow and then you’ll see

In the mirror you're only looking at me

Papa's big ears bring big pain!

August 6, 2012

Joshua took his big ears from papa.  One day, when the kids were running around the house playing, Josh was chasing Sam to catch him before he got to base (my bed).  He was hot on his tail as they ran down the hall.  Sam hit my room and slammed the door.  I don't know how he did it, but Josh got his ear slammed in the door. OUCH!  Very noticeably red and painful!  That's papa's big ears!

Our hair story

August 6, 2012

I used to stand behind daddy (in this chair) and style his hair.  I would tease it and part it in the middle.  I have even been known to put it up in a ponytail on the top of his head.  He would laugh at my antics!

Davey took this picture.  Papa was visiting his family in Carrollton.  One of the happy moments shared.

This is one of my favorite pictures of my daddy.  I told him he could clean up real pretty!
Oh, notice the big ears.  He has grandchildren that share this trait.  The nose too!

Life changing moment

August 6, 2012

When Chris was born, papa was keeping Aaron for us.  It was a beautiful day, and Aaron had a lot of energy (he was just turning 2), so papa decided to take him in the back yard and let him run around.  He watched him run around for a few minutes, then decided to fiddle with his lawn tractor while Aaron ran off some energy.  He had his eyes turned no more than 2 min. and heard what sounded like footsteps on a tin roof.  He turned around and looked, and to his horror, there was Aaron running across the roof of the storage building.  Aaron had climbed up the ladder that was leaning on the side of the building.  Visions ran through papa's head of having to tell his daughter that Aaron had fallen off his storage building and gotten hurt or was dead.  He knew his arms weren't long enough to reach Aaron so he just (loudly and firmly) told him to sit down.  Aaron did as his papa had said.  Then he was able to climb up and get him without anything happening.  From that day on, you would never find a ladder propped up against any building that papa had.  Papa always said he lost 10 years of his life that day, in that one instant.  Thank God that Aaron did as papa asked.

Watch what you say to children!

August 3, 2012

When Aaron was in Kindergarten, daddy stopped by one day for a visit.  When the mail ran, Aaron wanted to run out to the mailbox and get the mail for us.  Papa stopped him and proceeded to tell him to be careful.  "You have to wait for someone to go with you.  There are a lot of bad people in the world who would love to grab a little boy like you and do bad things to them.", papa said.  Papa continued on, "You are young and still have a pretty face.  When you get old like me, you have an ugly face and it would scare them.  Nobody would want to get you then".  Aaron listened very closely to everything his papa said.  Then, matter-of-factly stated, "Well, papa, if someone tries to grab me when I get the mail, you just come up there and show them your ugly face and they will run away."
It took a lot of control to not bust out laughing at those words.  Aaron had listened very closely and just used the same words that his papa used.
Daddy always got a laugh at that memory and we get a kick out of reminding Aaron of it.
