  David Gilbert Bell, 88 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home in Alabaster, Alabama. David was born in Saginaw, Michigan on August 27, 1935, to the late Gilbert and Loraine Bell. He was the oldest of five children. 

     David was married to his wife, Davine LaFoy Bell for 63 years, and they had three daughters, Jennifer Derryberry, Alabaster, AL., Pamela Dorough (David), Columbiana, AL., and Paula Bell, Alabaster, AL. He had 4 Grandchildren, Amanda Williams (Robert), Lookout Mountain, GA., Joshua Dorough (Melissa), Vincent, AL., Daniel Dorough, Columbiana, AL., and Jonathan Dorough, Columbiana, AL., and 2 great-grandchildren, Maggie Williams, Lookout Mountain, GA., and Henry Dorough, Vincent, AL. 

     David was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Nelson Bell, and Loraine Rossman Bell, 2 siblings, Richard (Carol) Bell, Clark Summit, PA., and Paul (Diane) Bell, Essex, CT. 1 brother-in-law, Raymond Elumba (Susan) CT., and 1 sister-in-law, Carol Bell (Dick) Clark Summit, PA. He has 2 surviving siblings, Susan Elumba (Raymond) CT., and Gilbert Bell (Jan,) CT.

David attended The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He worked as an analytical chemist, served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster, was a member of the National Chemical Society, played softball for 28 years at Elliotsville Church, where he was well known as “Taco,” volunteered many years at the pumpkin patch, and served as a cub scout leader. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a Christian example to them all. He loved to laugh and make others laugh with his endless sense of humor. He loved his family, church, and friends, and will always be remembered, loved, and greatly missed. 

     David’s Funeral will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster, 8828 Highway 119, Alabaster, AL. 35007. Visitation is at 11:00 and Funeral at 12:00 with Matthew Ingram officiating.      The family has asked for donations to be made to First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster or Alabaster Fire Department in leu of Flowers.
