David Lee Strickland, 89, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at his home.
A native of Franklin County, he was the son of the late William Norman Strickland and Sallie Betty Batton. David was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church Butner where he served as a Deacon and Usher. He was also an active member of Butner Masonic Lodge #697 serving as Master in 1982 and 1991. He remained an active participate in many volunteer service ministries, including nursing homes, where he sang country and gospel songs with his band, David Strickland band following his retirement from John Umstead June 30, 1982.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 15, 2108 at First Baptist Church Butner by Rev. Charlie Bryan and Arthur Byrd. Burial will follow the service at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor with Masonic Rites.
Surviving are his wife, Mary J. Strickland of the home; a daughter, Peggy S. Hart (Ricky) of Oxford; a son, David L. Strickland, Jr. (Debra) of Clarksville, Va.; two step-sons, Merritt Bradsher of Holly Springs, Kenneth Bradsher of Butner; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening, October 14, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home.
