David Michael Whitfield. 66, a lifetime resident of Granville County passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham.
He was born January 15, 1953 in Granville County to the late Ben Duke Whitfield and Mamie Currin Whitfied. David was a member of Tally Ho Baptist Church and was retired from Umstead Correctional Center. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2008 by Governor Mike Easley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 7, 2019 in the Eakes Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Charlie Bryan. Burial will be in Tally Ho Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Angela Whitfield Wiggs (Jeffrey) of Stem; son, Roy Michael Whitfield of the home; brother, Kenneth Whitfield (Cissi) of TN; twin granddaughters, Baileigh and Raegan Wiggs and a niece, Autumn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Hayes Whitfield.
Visitation will be prior to the funeral service from 12:30 – 2:00 pm Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and at other times at the home of his daughter, Angela W. Wiggs.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Duke Children’s Hospital, 2301 Erwin Rd. Durham, NC 27705.

I have a lot of relatives at Tally Ho church (Hettie and H.P. Wilkins Sr.) were my grandparents. God Bless You All in the days ahead!
