ForeverMissed

This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, David Mason.

David was born on 23rd November 1981 at Tynemouth, nearly two weeks late and 9lbs weight.  His granny was the first one to see him and fell in love with him at first sight, as did his mum.

When he was only eight weeks’ old he went on an eight hour flight to the Sultanate of Oman to visit his dad who was working for the Sultan’s Airforce, teaching English on a bachelor status contract.  He stayed there for one month and visited some of the country’s most unspoilt and beautiful beaches and inland mountain scenery by 4WD in a carry cot in the back.  He was always a happy and healthy baby and hardly ever cried or was difficult.

When he was one year old he went to live with both parents in Yanbu al-Sinaiyah, in Saudi Arabia, where his father was Director of Studies at an Arab Boys School and his mum was a nursery schoolteacher. In the five years there he travelled to Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Canada, the US, five of the West Indies and several European countries.  He attended a nursery school there himself and went on the back of his mum’s bike, often being chased by a wild dog on the way home.  The last year he was there, his mum taught him at home with 7 other expat children as his nursery school had been shut down for local government reasons.  He learnt to read and write at home, but by the time he was nearly six he relocated to UK settling in Elsenham, Essex, a commuter belt village with a railway station where his father could go to work to the City in his new job as stockbroker. His sister Anna, was born the following year. David attended Elsenham Church of England Primary School until he was eleven followed by Newport Free Grammar School.

When he was sixteen he applied to Hills’ Road Sixth Form College which was at the time one of the top state sixth forms and achieved A levels in Music, History and Performing Arts.  He then went to City University to study for a BA Hons in Music showing a particular interest in Balinese Gamelan music.  He took a gap year after his degree with his then girlfriend Caroline Woodyer and travelled to Australia working in Sydney for six months and then travelling all around Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, China, Bali and Hong Kong before returning to the UK.

He worked in Music Publishing at PRS for a few years before deciding to go solo to develop his music and writing career.  But in this time he still fulfilled his love of travel visiting Abu Dhabi three times where his parents were living, India, the US, Morocco and many more place

His current girlfriend Vivian was from Vietnam and they met in London while she was studying for her degree.  He went on holiday with her there in 2009 and had a wonderful trip.  He was planning a return trip out there later this year as her student visa had run out and she had had to return.

I will always be thankful that Dave was there to "take me under his wing" while I was studying abroad in London. He was a great guy and I'll miss him.

Those special memories of you
will always bring a smile.
If only I could have you back
for just a little while.
Then we could sit and talk again,
just like we used to do.
you always mean so very much
and always will do too.
The fact that you're no longer here
will always cause me pain.
But you're forever in my heart
until we meet again...
