The Heavens called for David Phillip “Tata Davy” Richards Ramirez on Friday, January 4, 2019. Davy’s strong and courageous battle with cancer ended at the age of 64. He was born on December 21, 1954 to parents Belen and Joseph Ramirez of Tucson. He grew up rough and tumble in Menlo Park with his 6 brothers, graduated from Cholla High School in 1972 and later married in 1975. He was an avid member of the community, the local YMCA and made his career in the family’s business, El Pueblo Roofing, his father’s legacy.

Known best for his cheerful personality, laid-back attitude and enormously caring heart. The ultimate outdoorsman, he lived life teaching the lessons of his father; camping, fishing, hunting, grilling, respect and family above all else. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, the UofA Wildcats and being a husband, father, son, brother, friend and most importantly, Tata Davy.

Survived by his wife, Lorena, children David J. (Chad) Ramirez, Carissa M. (Carlos) Camacho, Christopher “Critter” (Christy) Ramirez and Stephen “Nico” (Samantha) Ramirez, step-children, Armando and Margaret Sotelo, brothers, Joe (Drina), Rene (Susan), Andy (Therrie), Phil (Sue), Larry, Kenny (Cynthia), in-laws, Kimmy (Scott), grandchildren, Danny, Carlos Jr., Luis, Nico Jr., Hunter, Meadow, Zoe and Melanie, godchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Belen and Joseph, wife Sherrie and grandson Armando. Until we see that smile and hear that laugh again; rest in peace forever.

A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and resp therapists at St. Mary’s and Banner UMC 3DW; you guys rocked!

Rosary and mass will be held at Most Holy Trinity Parish, 1300 N. Greasewood Rd., Tuesday, January, 22, 2019 @ 9:30am and 10am; burial at Holy Hope Cemetery, 3555 N. Oracle Rd. Tucson, AZ

Happy 1st Birthday in Heaven Dad! There isn't a day where you don't cross my mind. You're missed deeply and we are all trying very hard to continue living life in your honor and to make you proud. Your memories and teachings will live on through your kids and family. Love you, miss you and why did you take my dog today? You don't need her, but just keep her safe for your #1.

Today is Dave's 65th birthday. Our family always worked to make it special, and to have it stand out from Christmas. This made for a nice situation....celebrate Dave's birthday, then four days later, celebrate Christmas! Our elementary school, Menlo Park, recently had a 100 year celebration, and many old friends, neighbors and classmates attended. A touching memorial was there to honor those who have left us. Dave is prominent among them. We all miss you, every day. Your legacy of kindness, joy and love will forever envelop us with great memories and thoughts. Happy Birthday, brother!

So to follow up on our brother Joe, here are a few tidbits from my memories of our childhood:

1.  I was in first grade and Davy being the good baby brother walked out of the house and went towards Menlo Park Elementary School to take me cookies.  Of course he got lost and the police found him and returned him home.  I never did get the cookies!

2.  Our mom was taking a much needed nap, and Davy found a bottle of mercurochrome which was a red dyed antiseptic.  He made stripes all over Mom's body, and it took days for it to wear off.

3.  With 7 growing boys, we never had a sit down dinner.  If you talked and asked to pass a dish, you were not eating!  Davy ate more than his share, being the largest of us at the time.

So where does one start to describe such a person so full of life like my brother Dave?  A good place is to recount some of the stories of us growing up from our oldest brother, Joe.

1. "When I was probably still in elementary school, I had a leather pouch that I used as a piggy bank. I probably had 7-10 dollars saved for a baseball glove.  I got home from school one day and went to count my money.  It was gone.  Davy was at Jeff's Market with the Villasenor kids and everyone had a soda and ice cream.  Mom held me back from killing him."

2.  "I was in the kitchen with Mom when we noticed that the kitchen was full of water.  Water was rushing down the hallway and flooding the house.  Davy had stuck a hose through the back bedroom and turned the water on."

3.  "Mom heard a crash in the kitchen.  The Ice Box was down and Davy was underneath with the box on top of him.  The only thing showing were his legs and a red substance coming out from under the box.  Davy had been swinging on the freezer door and pulled the box down, but it got caught on the cupboard door under the sink.  The substance was ketchup and Mom freaked."

4. "We tied Davy to the Mulberry tree in the back yard and I shot him in the leg with a target arrow.  I guess it kind of hurt."

5. "We were playing cowboys and Indians and we were holding Davy down, and I pretended to scalp him.  I then noticed blood coming out of his forehead.  We went too far?"

6. "Davy grabbed a 22 bullet with pliers and smashed it with a hammer.  It went off in the back porch, but luckily, no one was hurt."
