David left a positive and indelible impact on my life, just as he did for hundreds of others. I was fortunate to report to him for 14 years at AIA, and he was a mentor, a leader, a sage, and even a father figure to me. After I left AIA we stayed in touch, and he was always so encouraging and supportive of my family and me. I know that his family (whom he adored and incessantly spoke so proudly of), his friends, and even his acquaintances all feel this huge loss. David — THANK YOU, MY FRIEND for pouring yourself into my personal as well as my business life!!! I can never thank you enough, my dear friend!!! Rest In Peace... even though you rarely rested!! :)

Will always remember David's voice, such strength, power and clarity. Never could detect an East Coast accent. A couple of times, we celebrated David's birthday on a charter in Lake Michigan, trying to entice a salmon or lake trout to our lures. Fish often won the battle, be we definitely had memorable experiences.  bye David

I first met David back in the late 80's at a then RAC meeting. He welcomed me with open arms and heart and was always an inspiration and light for me. We saw each other at annual PPAI events and conventions and again while I served on the PPAI Board. Always there with advise and charm. David will be missed but will live on in all of us that he touched.

I miss my friend David terribly. I had been with AIA as an owner for many years and ran into David shortly after he became CEO while waiting in the airport for our respective departures. The connection was deep and instant which those of you who knew him will understand. He had a way of making you feel as though you were the only one in the room. David understood that the way we connect is to ask questions and then truly listen. We shared a love of literature, history, sports, family, and ideas. When I would talk to him he never once forgot to ask about my son Daniel which truly touched my heart. I will miss his wisdom, his humor, his caring nature, and his quiet presence. Those of us who have been with AIA will never forget his epic performance at our convention as "Flava Dave" performing a sendup of the rap song Funky Cold Medina as "Where the Hell is Neenah". Aloha my friend- may you be in peace.

copy of Obituary:
David Harold Woods died April 26, 2019 in Appleton, Wisc., his home of 12 years. He was born on August 25, 1943 in Pepperell, Mass. to Bess and Harold Woods.
He believed that education was the key to success, graduating from Boston University with a BA in Business, and went on to receive an MBA from the University of Michigan. Later in his career he graduated from the PMA Executive program at Harvard University. David never believed in the idea of a self-made man but felt success came through connections and relationships with people. His gift was the ability to connect with people anywhere and on any topic.
During his career, he starred for 30 years in the promotional products industry where he received acclamations and Hall of Fame status. During his retirement, he devoted his time and abilities to the Green Lake Music Festival as well as Bergstrom Mahler Museum of Glass. One of his great passions was Beaver Brook Association, a private non-profit environmental center in southern New Hampshire where he and his best friend from childhood established The Woods-Smith Scholarship fund to provide inner-city kids an opportunity to spend a day in nature. He continued his life-long desire to travel and explore until the end.
He filled his life with music, art, fast cars, travel and connecting with people. He was a ferocious reader, absorbing information like a sponge, and enjoyed curating his collections, which varied from art to trains.
At the heart of it all was his love of family.
He is survived by his three sons and their families: Stephen and his wife, Mollie; Nicholas and his wife, Elizabeth; and Theodore. He was the loving grandfather to six grandchildren: William, Robert Paul, Sara, Ella, Andora, and Mack. He was preceded in death by his parents.
David left a hole that can never be filled in the lives of those who loved him, including his family and the many friends he loved like family.
Although David was a citizen of the world, he will return to Groton, Massachusetts, where he will be laid to rest. Graveside service will be held on August 24, 1pm at Groton Cemetery (242 Hollis St, Groton, MA 01450). Memorial will be held from 2-5pm at The Barn of Maple Hill Farm at Beaver Brook (117 Ridge Road, Hollis, N.H. 03049).  All are welcome to celebrate his life and share their grief.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Woods-Smith Scholarship Fund. Through Beaver Brook Association.

Stepen, Ted, Nicolas and Cynthia,
I met your Dad when he came to visit your Uncle Jack and myself. I throughly enjoyed meeting him and hearing old stories. Just know he is with your Uncle Jack somewhere with the other flying angels. Peace be with you all. Love Nancy
