I am sorry to say, I'm two years too late to get to know Dayton. I'm reading a transcript of an interview he did with my grandmother in 2005. I tried to reach out to him, and was very sad to find that he had passed. From everything I've read, I lost the chance to get to know a great person. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. I am happy to find I am part of that family.

Dayton was a unique individual. Hardworking, intelligent, and personable. I did his tax return for years. When he had the Restauarnt, I would call and place my bets when he was really busy. we both played the stock market using options. He was self taught and his knowledge exceded mine about 2 years ago. I am pleased to have known dayton.

I didn't come to know until later in my life but you were a very kind, likable person and a great blessing to the whole family especially Aunt Billie. I think she looked at you as the son she never had. You are and will always be greatly missed. Lve Alwys

Dayton was a very intelligent man. I could talk to Dayton about anything and I always appreciated his input and observations. He was also one of the kindest persons I have ever met. I consider it a great blessing to have known him and I miss him.

Dayton seemed to be one who learned from every experience of life and turned the lessons into advantages for future use. If you asked him a question, you could be sure he was telling you the truth as he knew it and that he was on your side.

Dayton--I will miss all our games of poker and trivial pursuit with my partner who knew all the answers and helped me cheat by distracting the enemy! Miss you, and love you. <3

Young and carefree...

November 15, 2011

Dayton and I were riding around Orleans in my 1967 MG Midget with "Marmaduke", the house mascot from my fraternity, Acacia at IU. This was the summer of 1969 and I had brought Marmaduke home for the summer. My sister, Sharon McCart Gillespie took this photo in front of her home in Orleans. Mike Whalin, a friend to both of us, is shown on the motorcycle in the background. Dayton had a great sense of humor and we enjoyed watching the people do a double-take when they saw this huge dog in this little car. Miss you Dayton...
