Visit Guest Book A memorial mass of Christian burial will be offered for James A. Roy on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church. A luncheon reception will follow in the parish hall. Concluding services and inurnment with military honors performed by the Oregon Military Honors Department will be held in the chapel at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. An evening vigil service and recitation of the holy rosary will be held at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 7 p.m.
Deacon James A. Roy, fondly known as Deacon Jim, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was 72.
He was born May 12, 1939, in Waterville, Maine, to Jerome and Dorothy (Drouin) Roy.
He married Carmen Levesque in June 1961 and they shared over 50 wonderful years of love, family, travel and service to God and country.
He retired from the
U.S. Navy after 23 years of service as a Warrant Officer 4. During his military career, he served at various duty stations and on a number of ships. He served as a radioman during the Cuban Missile Crises in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Other overseas duties included Japan and Morocco. While serving in the military, he obtained his bachelor's degree and upon retirement received his master's degree from San Diego State University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa.
After retiring from the military, he became a permanent deacon for the Catholic Church and served at various parishes in California, Arizona and Oregon. He moved to Klamath Falls in 1996 and served as the deacon for St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church until his retirement in 2007.
Although he loved and served many people throughout his life, his wife Carmen and his eight children were the most precious to him and brought him much joy.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Carmen and their children Peter and Betsy Roy, Cindy (Roy) and Bill Schmeck, Melissa Roy and Kevin Haley, Melanie (Roy) and Robert D'Andrea, John and Laura Roy and Mary Roy. Two sons preceded him in death Mark Antonio and Joshua Jon. Also surviving are his 16 grandchildren Jared and his wife Amanda, Phillip and his pre-fiancee Krissandra, Sabrina, Averie and her husband Fernando, Amanda, Jennifer, Austin, Victoria, Joshua, Gabriella, Jacob, Zachery, Mark, Nathan, Danielle and Lilly J; four great-grandchildren Adelyn, Gigi, Griffin and Leilah Rose; brothers and sisters Rev. David Roy, Jane Irving, Theresa and Paul Pellerin, Patrick and Juanita Roy and their families; brothers-in-law Rev. Gerald Levesque and Carl and Mary Levesque and their families; his dear family friends Norma and Roger Short and Edwin Aguon; and his little dog Rambo.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jerome and Dorothy (Drouin) Roy and his in-laws R. Arthur and Matilda (Mida) Levesque, Lynette Levesque and Bernard Levesque.
