Thanks for calling me Jack. I am so sorry to learn of Deane’s passing.

Deane was a man I greatly admired, both as a Tek employee who put the company first, and as a man who was strictly honest.
He was greatly admired too by many, probably most, of the folks in engineering jobs at Tek.
He conducted meetings for years during product development to make sure the designers followed the procedures and requirements
specified by the new product introduction system called the phase system. He presided over those meetings in a no nonsense
way and required that honest answers were given to the question in that system as a way to help make sure the products
were ready when they were introduced into manufacturing.

Deane dealt with the entire engineering folks in product design at Tek, and was not limited to
just a small part of the company. As a result, I think every engineer knew who Deane was and what his job was to help insure the
products were meeting specifications and time lines. He actually scared some of the designers who feared him and his meetings
but we had become friends by then, we were both honest, and so the meetings I sat in on for my products went along just fine.

When I joined Tek in 1960 as a design engineer I was really wet behind the ears. Deane was sort of a scary guy to me then.
I was assigned the job of making a high voltage power supply for an oscilloscope’s Cathode Ray Tube that was short proof.
I was charged with making sure if someone accidentally shorted the high voltage to ground the transistors would survive
and the high voltage supply would not be damaged but would recover and work fine after the short.
The power supplies we had then were not short proof and with the introduction of transistors , which were rather
fragile, not well understood, and very expensive, used in the new product I was working on I had to try a new
circuit design to see if it was short proof. Needless to say I ruined a number of transistors. Finally I walked into
Deane’s office to ask for yet another transistor he became angry because of the costs I had already sort of wasted.
But I felt worse about it then he did and I stood up to him face to face and challenged him to do the job!
I told him this was new territory and it was a cut and try process until one was found that worked!
That calmed him down, he smiled, and we were friends from then on.

I would like to attend any service planned for Deanne. If no service is planned I understand.

Please consider this email my sympathy card for a man I greatly admired, liked, and whose company and
sense of humor I greatly admired.

And I hope this helps you understand how much Deane meant to me. GOD Bless him, you two, and all who loved him.

So sorry for your loss, but thankful that you were there, Pam, and that he had you and/or Tiffani with him constantly in his last days on this earth. He was blessed to have your devotion and care all these years. It's exhausting and so intense walking with someone as they leave. I'm glad you still have your great attitude! Also glad you ALL are well. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Much love,
Janet Grothe

My thoughts are with both of you and the rest of your families. I'm sorry for your loss, and at the same time know that Deane is at peace and much more comfortable. If there is anything that I can do to help either of you as you mark his passing, you have only to ask.

Wishing you both Peace and Love,

Deane was certainly well known in engineering as it was he who, more than anyone else, decided whether an instrument passed certain milestones (in the phase system). He was always fair.

Another thing Deane was, is generous. On a couple of occasions I needed a Tektronix part no longer in production to maintain an instrument I had. Deane nearly always had the part and never would take any money from me for it. He was a very dedicated employee, especially dedicated to the products and to customers to whom he supplied instrument manuals from his vast collection. He was a legend.

As project manager for several SA projects, I had occasion to work closely with Dean several times. I always leveled with him as to where we were and what our problems were. In return, he always did his best to direct us to the best route and smooth the way to get us to market. I always found him fair, generous and very easy to work with.

I am very sorry to hear of Deane's passing.
You know I thought a lot of Deane as a friend for more than 20 years.
We had a lot of fun playing pool. He was one neat guy.
I hope you and Andy are doing OK.
Loosing your parents is not easy.
I don't know where to go from here just know that it
was an honor to have known him.

We are thinking of you today. Such a sad day, but you were there, that’s what matters. And from the last pictures you sent to me, he was surrounded by his family. It seems that would have brought him joy. Especially thinking of little Paityn. I am sure you will all be supporting her. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Becky and Steve Fowler

So sorry to hear such sad news. We loved him so much, he did so many kind things in his life for us.
Please read Revelation 21:3,4. Soon our loving heavenly Father Jehovah will do away with sickness and death, and bring our dead loved ones back to a beautiful paradise earth.

I believe our future is so positive.

Love you all so much,

I am so sorry to hear that. We are the same age, 89. But it sounds like he expired peacefully. I hope I can do the same. He was very helpful to me early in my career. Please tell me where and when I can send flowers.
My condolences to you. He was a fine man and a good friend for many years.

Dear Pam, Jack and Family,

It is with great sadness and a feeling of loss that we learned of Deane's passing.

My first memories of Deane date to my 1978 sabbatical leave in the medical products group of Tektronix and the concern (panic?) among the managers when he was holding one of his reviews. It was only on my return to in 1980 that I truly understood the major part that Deane played in ensuring the quality of Tek's products,

It was when I started to attend TERAC's Friday evening gatherings that I came to know Deane as a friend and to really appreciate him. We all owe him a tremendous debt for keeping us on the right track.

We will miss gently miss him.

You are in our thoughts.

Deane took a lot of heat at Tek trying to force our behemoth to keep
schedules. I am glad he had many mellow years thereafter.

He is missed already.

To
PAM AND JACK
Dear Cousin Pam,

I am so sorry for your great loss. What a blessing that you could be with Uncle Dean as he passed. I was with my Mom when she passed last year and it was such a peaceful, reassuring experience. The spirit of God's love truly filled the room. My prayers are with you, Jack and your family as you adjust to this loss. May God hold you all.
Sincerely,
Debra Callender and Rosa Crouley

Hi, Dad! I just know that you are watching over us. Sometimes I feel you just over my shoulder. Thank you for your love and assistance. Today the smoke from forest fires is pretty heavy on our home again, I do think that if you were still that kid fire spotter on your lonely high tower, this fire would not have gotten away and grown so large. Praise Our Heavenly Father that He will regrow the flora and fauna as is His will, in His Wise time. Praise God that you are safe with Him. We miss you, Dad. Hugs, ~pam.
